Those “horns” are for retrieving disabled vehicles on the battlefield, they are found on most IDF AFV, with the exception of the M113.

Effectively an extension of the recovery shackles, usually hung with a recovery chain, as in my recent Mk IV build. The IDF just LOVE their heavy duty recovery chains.

Sometimes towing horns also mounted on the rear of the vehicle. The idea is that a D9 can tow away the disabled vehicle using its claw, without the need of dismounting any of the crew.
