Weathering over Zimmerit?

Hi,
currently I build an Elefant with ATAK Zimmerit, as you know the Zimmerit is only covering half of the upper parts. How to weather this? I don’t know if I can try to do streaking, will that work? What did you did with Zimmerit tanks?

Streaking can still work
On the Elefant, zimm covers the lower parts though

I assume you’re concerned about vertical streaking spreading out laterally along the zim? Tojo72 has proved it’s possible to minimise that, I’d only add (a) presumably the spreading happened on the original too so why worry? (b) if that’s not a good enough answer, try vertical streaking without fluid – finely powdered pastel chalk dust applied with a soft brush.

I think that the Zimmerit actually aids weathering. Applying a wash over it followed by dry brushing makes the Zimmerit “pop” and also makes the whole vehicle look more aged. The only thing I would be careful of is rusting - obviously Zimmerit doesn’t rust, but the steel underneath will, but only where the Zimmerit and the primer is damaged.

One thing i did on mine was i ran some rust wash around the tracks to simulate some rust staining on the zimm, artistic license or not,im not sure.

Thanks for the good input :+1:

The vehicular exposures to the weather, the ground, or battle will certainly show these elements. For example, any vehicle that splashes through a mud puddle will show splattered mud whether or not it is covered with Zimmerit or painted steel. It will streak either way. It is simply a matter of how the weathering is applied based on the vehicle’s outer shell. Does the pattern of weathering look logical and plausible. Study all available photographic evidence and base your weathering accordingly.
