What are you reading

Just finished this. Very interesting. The only negative is that when it comes to the Holocaust, he takes the Sgt. Shultz defense. “I know nothing”.

This came earlier today;’ can’t put it down. Gripping in a truly horrifying, bleak way, but it rattles along - literally - unputdownable:

This is one of my favorite discussions on KitMaker, both for the book recommendations and because it rekindled my desire to read real books.

I finished reading Terrain Modeling about two weeks ago and am currently using it as a reference for my Sd. Kfz. 223 project.

Following the previous book, Panzer III and Its Variants was a quick read in preparation for a Panzer III project.

Bradley sat on a shelf, unread, for 15 years. It was rediscovered last week while looking for information on M113s. Having just finished the book, I am rather pleased my younger self had the foresight to purchase it.

As I was reading a lot more of the Star Wars novels in my youth, I missed out on a lot of Terry Pratchett back in the day. I’m now making up for that.

About a third of the way through and really enjoying it. Raising Steam and The Monstrous Regiment are two others I read a while ago that I really liked.
Funnily enough, my partner played Mort in a stage adaptation when she did drama at college. That was many years before we met!

I’m living vicariously through reading this post. Stacks of books but no time to actually read them. All my “reading” is by audiobook. What I can, I’ll open up a PDF book in my browser, highlight as much text as it will allow me, and then tap “read aloud.”. Works okay except doesn’t always know what’s the body of the text versus captions.

What I’ve been listening to for the last 2 weeks.

I’m an SF fan, so I read a lot of that. But in my “To-Read” pile I have Crusades: A Short History by Johnathan Riley-Smith. This will be a re-read (I read it the first time some 25 years ago), & was fairly authorative at the time.

I also have some epub books in Spanish about the Cenepa war (Peru vs Ecuador), that I need to get around to…

Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe’s Revenge. Set during the Napoleonic period follows the path of a British soldier. Finished the series by Patrick O’Brian set in the same period but from the navel point of view. Would enjoy reading them again some day.

I hope you started with the first volume. Revenge is volume 21 in the series. You can read 1 thru 5 which are prequels but if you can start with Sharpe’s Rifles and go from there. Wonderfully woven series and equal in adventure and drama to O’Brian’s series if not in attention to period detail. If you’re just starting you are in for an historical feast.

Sure did, Sharpe’s Tiger then following in chronological order. I’ll read other stuff in between so it has been over a number of years. Next book up will be Wager based on actual events around a ship wreck.

Nice ones, my favourites:

Revenge
Sword
Fortress
Gold
Eagle
I liked the period feel, life on ship and O’Brien’s knowledge of the subject I became invested in the characters.

I’ve never heard anything bad said about the Sharp’s series. I intend to start reading them someday, I’ve got so many other things that it may be a while.

At the big library last week. I’m still working through the book on the New Georgia campaign, Operation Cartwheel. There’s several other books just on the same shelf that I want to read.

Esp. this one.

It’s a shame that even today so many people still thinking of drunk enough to screw up. You’re right, Grant was one of our greatest. Last week I visited the Columbus-Belmont battlefield, and a years ago I toured Fort Donaldson. Toured confederate general Tilghman’s house in Paducah this past spring.

Also visited Cairo, Illinois last week. What a tragic place. Last time I was there about 10 years ago, most of the abandoned decaying buildings were still standing. Now they’ve been raised.
