Sounds like I need to look this up
I’ve decided to pick this book back up after setting it down a few pages away from chapter 3. I have some other Asimov stories back at my apartment, so I mght read those after this one.
Found this one in the used books for sale section of my local branch library. Currently in the queue. Will read later.
This is a fascinating story, my grandfather worked on the Glomar Explorer at Sun Ship in Chester PA and I worked with a guy who helped build the grappling arm and crane at Reading Crane in Reading PA. Of course at the time they had no idea of the true purpose of their respective projects.
Wow, connected to a CIA mission in an indirect way. Interesting.
I was finally able to get back to this magazine issue which my uncle gave me, since he accidentally ordered the Russian version instead of the German version. I wanted to figure out which rust effects to get.
Currently reading this one that was sent to me by Osprey Publishing to read and review for them.
American Civil War Amphibious Tactics
Finished, Neil Young Special Deluxe A Memoir Of Life & Cars - nonfiction
Interesting read if you’re into cars. Into old cars. Even if you don’t like Neil Young’s music. I skipped over the pages with lyrics and song writing and studio time. However, if you’re a Neil Young fan then there is a lot of insight into his song writing, his epilepsy. I had no idea prior to this autobiography. I like reading about drug fueled stories of celebrity autobiographies and this one had several of these.
He was also into Lionel scale trains and building layouts with ground work and buildings.
The last chapter described dropping a hybrid engine system into one of his old classics. The success and failures of this project and the social political tour with this vehicle.
He also did a biography of Winston Churchill- “The Last Lion”. It was supposed to be a three-volume set but he died before finishing Volume III. He is / was an excellent author.
I read the three volume set. Even though the last volume was written by someone else(can’t remember who) it was just as well done. Didn’t notice any real difference in stlye. In fact I didn’t realize it was a different author until I was almost finished.
I’m almost finished reading the first book in ASOIAF, and planning to read Johnny Got His Gun.
Been on a bit of a sci-fi binge of late.
Read Arthur C Clarke’s ‘Rendezvous with Rama’ on holiday. An interesting short read, but left a lot of questions and lacked any sort of tension or danger. A couple of events, but they were easily overcome. I bought the complete set of Rama books as a bundle on eBay and they get progressively thicker! Made a start on Rama II, which so far reads like a soap opera.
Put it to one side and picked up ‘3001’, seems ok so far.
Also reading 'Raise the Titanic ', which I am enjoying a lot more. Seems a bit vague on what this ‘Sicilian Project’ they want the rare mineral to power actually is. Some sort of missile defence, so I’m guessing a laser. And yes I have the seen the film, I know it was all for nothing by the end.
Somewhere, I have got Clarkes version.
I actually only read the first two. I’ll have to find the last one. I’m a fan of Churchill.
Finished up Raise the Titanic over the weekend. Felt the ending was rushed and a little cliched despite the excellent build up in the first half. Thought the reveal of the Soviet agent was a little too much like the old detective getting all the suspects together in the drawing room. Maybe it was just a product of its time.
Anyway, found this little book about the DFS-230 today in my local WH Smiths. Should be a good reference when I get around to the RS Models kit soon.
No profiles, but it does have plenty of great photos. Including some colour shots during the build up to the Cretan operation. Markings seem to be minimal except for crosses and a blue identification stripe on the fuselage. Will help with my little Crete collection I’m planning.
And just had to get this one about my favourite TV show! Really looking forward to starting this one.
I really love Bottom… Specially the live shows!
It’s brilliant. I often liken to a live action cartoon. But often very clever with it’s writing and gags.
