Speaking of painting. AK RC NATO green and rubber black.
More rubber black on the tread ways. Plan is to mask the surface and paint the rest of it. I hope.
These are gonna take a ridiculous amount of paint I think.

I finished the painting / decaling and started weathering the excellent PanzerConcepts US M1890 12-mortar. I used a 3-color hairspray technique to get the patina on the mortar.
Beautiful! The finish on the barrel particularly is stunning.
Thanks for the kind words Sean!
Looks fantastic and very realistic!
A+++
The whole model looks like a well patinated piece of brass. Beautiful paint.
Unbelievable, intricate finish Rick. It is ultra - realism at its finest. Truly a spectacular piece.
Rummaging around in my stash I came across this set from R Create Miracle. Thing is, the wire for the pins is missing. Anyone out there know the guage of the wire I need for this set?
Thank you! I am getting better at the technique and the realism is improving with each try. It’s time consuming but is the only way I’ve found to get that patina.
@Denimo Those R-Model tracks are really nice. They come with their own pre-cut pins. Pity they are lost. The pins are 22 gauge wire.
That mortar is bad-ass Rick. I really like the stencils on the projectiles, too.
Meanwhile after two and one half bottles of AK RC NAtO green an equal amount of self leveling lacquer thinner and almost two hours in front of the paint booth:
Needs some touch up but overall I’m okay with the results.
The next time I decide to build two bridging vehicles at once, can somebody please hit me over the head?
Thanks for the info, yes they are really nice looking. The package was damaged on delivery so maybe they got “misplaced” in the outer packaging. I’ll have another look this week but in the event I dont find them, maybe wire cut and superglued at one end would work.
Don’t know if it’s correct as I don’t have any good references at-hand and most images I find online are engines in non-military colors or B&W photos where you can’t quite tell. You can find railcars in schemes other than gray but generally there just isn’t much to go on.
That said, house rules dictate the amount of pleasure to be gained from finishing a build in relation to the number of German WWII railway experts who will visit my home in the next 50 years and expose me as a fraud to the other guests is what determines the final build so I am going with this for now:
This is the basic scheme prior to any touch-ups, filtering, or other treatments.
PS: Just realized how hilarious it is that my best references are the kit instructions seeing as how the Australian Armor guys are using a kit to rebuild their 221.
That is a really nicely done monster! Big sod isn’t it. I always have a little giggle when I see something that big in camouflage colours as it’s bloody hard to hide! Nice job
Worked on cobbling up side skirts & a set of brackets from left over parts. Started installing tracks.
Inside faces of wheels will get weathering after tracks are installed.
I like it! It’s certainly not as boring as the locomotive and tender I built 13 years ago when I was recovering from lumbar fusion surgery (L2-L5) and loaded to the gills on OxyContin…
Looks like I need to dust… I’ve been slackin’
If the cars aren’t all grey then I would say it is time to dust! Are they all in 1/35?
