I’m still enjoying work on variants of the International Payhauler, 350C. I recently finished the wrecker/recovery version, but haven’t taken any photos yet. And, because I enjoyed the project, decided to make another, this time it will be the dump version, but with the bed removed, ultimately look stripped and suffering heavy decrepitude. Despite its end state, to get there it will need a lot of detail. I decided not to start with the engine and instead focused on the rear end:
I decided this will be shown with the rear wheels off, so made up planetaries on each side. I have to say, this was some slow going. The faceplates plates over the planetaries were carved out of the THICK model wheel, and adapted - then, more slow carving on the kit wheels to remove the wheel hubs, file the nuts off, then drill each out and add studs. Yep… X2…then, added brake drums.
Like the wrecker, this is being made up looking at photos, which means you see things not offered in the kit - like the frames and mud guards in front of the axles, and the two things (some sort of filters? but look more like some type of filler/tank?) atop the cross member - I say things, as I don’t know what they are, but, they are there.
And there’s the tubing mess shown above. Like the mystery filters, I realize these are for hydraulics, but haven’t a clue what they do. The kit provides you with two filters, mounted with individual brackets (and of course, the real thing has the hydraulic fittings mounted horizontally, and the kit, vertically - decided I could live with that), but the real thing has three, mounted on a single bracket that is set at an angle, and, there’s another thing just in front of them, also fully plumbed. So, this does too!
