What the postman brought today (Armorama)

I’m curious to see how they’ll do since I can use them for other stuff (I have plan for a fun “what if russia invaded britain but failed and a T14 got captured by the british army”)

Last of the purchases this month arrived.

And lastly something I picked up 2nd hand via Ebay as I currently will not put money into the hands of a Russian company, so I’ll not buy anything new from Zvezda.

looks like people have in mind the Made in USSR campaign!

@phil2015 Already in that campaign Phil with the Tamiya T-72M1 but may also build something else even though you don’t get anything for an extra build. I also currently won’t build anything post Soviet breakup Russian, I have the Meng T-72B3, T-90 w/dozer, T-90A, BMR-3M, 9A52-2 Smerch and BMPT Terminator. Unless I can find markings for non-Russian vehicles they will stay in the stash until the current conflict is over.
I’ve seen a set of decals for the T-72B3 in Ukrainian service which may work for that build, I believe the Smerch has Kuwait marking in the box but not seen markings for the others in non-Russian service.

Would you mind telling me your impressions of the models? Both boxes are on my wish list.

I’ve also got that RFM Abrams. Be keen to hear any impressions on the kit.

Except for maybe the track being link and length, the rest is correct for the time period as I recall even the Marine scheme. The Marine smoke grenades etc didn’t come til later. I like the clear center wheel hubs. A good kit to get.

Ryan linked an excellent article on the RFM M1A1 not sure I can add much. The other article mentioned by the first one Armorama :: M1A1 TUSK Build by Pete BecerraRFM M1A1 Tusk is worth a look as well.

Key points

I think the RFM Desert Storm M1A1 looks very good with lots of potential. I like the simple bath tub style lower hull and upper hull looks good with casting numbers plus anti slip texture.

Link and length tracks are always a negative in my opinion as related to installation and painting. Others have different views. Tracks have punch marks to remove. The guide tooths are separate.

The mold quality looks very good, flash free and no short shots. The M2 .50 cal MG is slide molded and looks pretty good compared to most kit MG’s. The instructions are 12 steps which isn’t a lot for a modern kit. Half are for the turret and half for the hull.

I believe the Abrams was RFM’s 2nd kit after the Tiger’s. While the kit isn’t 2025 complex, I think it looks like a sweet build.

This kit looks like a little jewel!

The Meng Kubelwagen is very much a 2025 kit with more complexity and detail than prior 1/35 kits. The Tamiya Kubelwagen holds up pretty well for a simple kit but Meng edges it out in general. I’m not a fan of the Meng’s vinyl tires but otherwise like the first impression.

Quinta Studios has a sweet 3d dash decal for the Italeri version, I hope to get one and see if it will work for the Meng kit.

The nice top, sharp interior & accessories convinced me to give the kit a try. Decals for a captured US version are also a nice touch. No idea if the 12th SS Divison version painting instructions listed for 1944 is correct in calling for RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau

Hope that helps

Tracks for Cuckoo, paint for that as well as the Archer I’ve been building too, plus more generic paint and figures. The ancient Panzer II is for a nostalgic group build on another forum, while the K2 Black Panther is one I’ve had my eye on for a number of years, so I finally gave in
