What the postman brought today (Armorama)

Colin, that sounds like a good set up! There’s a lot of new ideas :light_bulb: or tweaks that have come along to make housing more accessible for family members.

I was surprised to learn the new trend for access to the crawl space is to put the door inside the garage! Putting door in steps between garage and living space.

Likewise, climate controlled garages so they can be used as a big family room etc year round.

So kit storage just 3x

Having sacrificed my planned German version - ie in Bundeswehr service - to my MBT-70 (NL) project (See Best Tank That Never Was campaign) I thought I’d better get a replen while I could and found this for a mere 50 quid - which I thought was pretty good. It also seemed a little hard to locate models of this tank, so I did quite well here I think.

I also procured a 120mm gun for the project; most narratives about the MBT-70 story indicate that the Germans were looking for a pure gun-capability, as opposed to the gun/missile launcher as originally devised. So, at some juncture, I will be modelling just that, or rather, as I interpret it all(!)

You certainly did find a bargain, I’ve been on/off searching for the last 7 months and best I can find is £70 plus shipping.

I hadn’t quite appreciated how rare it now appears to be Luciano; bit of a bummer all round, especially as it’s the only game in town. So “Yes” - I did do rather well(!)

FYI, to balance that 120 mm gun, you need to have it further forward than just stuck to the front of the kit’s gun mantlet

Wow, a bit of a bargain there for sure, Brian! Colour me green!

Should look interesting with that 120mm gun.

If anything, I thought it would have to be further back (in towards the turret) I mean, trunnions are trunnions aren’t they?

Well, I like to think so - look interesting that is; I like to ring the changes even if, ultimately, it’s venturing into What-If territory.

A few tools and supplies.

I got one of those ‘Model parts detacher’ tools in one of their sets but have never used it. If you use it let me know how you get on.

I picked it up from my Bandai builds. I like to assemble first and then disassemble for painting. Figured this might help to not mare the plastic in the process. I can also see it being a mini crowbar for old kit dismemberment.

When I built my “M70” I looked up drawings of the 120 mm gun. Its trunnions are far enough back that the gun should go so far forward that, as I recall, the rear end of the locating lug on the Tamiya M1A1 kit barrel I used, should be more or less at the front of the Dragon KPz 70 mantlet.

Doing some quick measuring in a drawing of the gun, knowing its full length of 5593 mm, it seems that in 1:35 scale, the muzzle should be 121 mm in front of the centre point of the trunnions.

Hah - I have the same drawing filed in my project “Kpz-70 (Bw), but I hadn’t gotten around to doing the maths, so thanks for that - you’ve saved me a job, when, when I tackle the project.

Thanks again Jakko, always glad to be kept on the straight and narrow.

Something a little different a 3D resin printed 1953 Divco milk truck got it off the “E of Bay”. I’m not sure which way I want to go with this one. Military supply truck or a wasteland special.

Another American halftrack for my growing collection of them:

Plus a book:

This is a revised and expanded edition of one originally released ten years ago, and should be available for sale soon wherever you normally get your P.M. Knight books

#7 on my Want List. Already built the Hobby Boss T29 and Takom T30. This model has a huge Gotchya! but I already know what it is and how to deal with it.

#9 on my Want List. This is the last Pipsqueak Panzer I need to complete my set.

#16 on my Want List. Will probably switch to this for the Torpedo campaign.
