Who Makes the Best 1/35 M48 kit?

There are a few possibilities. You could use an Urdan cupola as a base and add the proper bits. I think the M103 used a similar one as well. Accurate- Armour does one. Include it with your final (ever) order from them and shipping is free!
I have one from AEF Designs but it probably scales out horribly,

I got the RWS: on the M48, it is a progenitor of the Urdan Cupola, but is in fact an RWS operated by the TC from inside. My dad (LTC, Commanding 72d Tank) said it was a bit like rubbing your head and patting your belly at the same time.

I sourced a 3D part printed by a gent in Greece. Exceptional quality!

Oddly, my ODS M1IP had the then current mount for the M2HBMG, and the manual controls were placed nearly identical to the M48. I learned to use the electric “pickle” that hung on a peg affixed to the turret wall, but that could be disengaged for freestyle!

Yes, that is the one I Sourced: from Greece!

Two other things to do to convert the M48A1 to M48:

  • Add the brackets to the turret roof for holding the MG mount when taken off the cupola. Unfortunately the 3DMC set doesn’t include them.

  • Change the driver’s hatch and periscope arrangement. The DML T54E1 kit has the correct M48 configuration, if you can find one. I bought an upper hull sprue off eBay. If not, putty and Evergreen . . .

One should also make the cupola ring on the turret smaller in diameter, so the Chrysler cupola fits exactly in the ring, shouldn’t he?

It should be checked, at least. I was thinking of that but I couldn’t remember whether the DML kit had it right or not.

It has the larger diameter ring for the M1 cupola.

Another one, but looks incorrect…

I think you asked me to check that last year - I have not forgotten. I just haven’t had time. Every time I pass through Ft. Carson now it’s on the way to some place much farther away.
