Work in progress on early M1A1

My latest project a early M1A1 pre desert storm with the T156 chevron tracks and no APU im backdating a Italeri M1A2 using A1 parts from a rye field Abrams and the tracks from Tamiya M1 Abrams the problem is Im in need of decals from any of the units in USAEUR that operated it at the time i know the Italeri kits isn’t the greatest I picked it up at a flea market for $20
the commanders weaponstation doghouse and cover for the CITV is from Rye Field

I may be wrong, but I think you can delete the lifting shackles on the blow off panels. Seem to remember ours were smooth

what about the 3 round disks on each of the blow off panels?

The discs are later, IIRC. Ah, yes, for example Verlinden Warmachines N° 6: M1 - M1 IP - M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank from 1991: on pages 24–25 are detail photos of the turret of an M1A1 with plain blow-out panels. No discs and no lifting eyes, only four bolts at the front and rear of each.

ok makes things easier

I was on A1s at this time (‘87-'88) and they did not have those disc’s. I have decals from the old tamiya A1 that you can have.

Looking at your pictures, the smoke grenade dischargers are on backwards they are shooting out to the flank and not more to the front and flanks. everything else looks great. I was on M1A1’s with 3rd Armored Division when we transitioned to M1A1’s in 1987

that Italeri for you screwing the pooch ill try bending them a bit forward
did M1A1s in the 80s carry 4 20mm ammo cans on the bustle rack?

We’re you detecting A very early M1 ? If so then the main gun should be A 105 and not A 120 ?

All A1s had the 120.

Depends on the unit.

I building a M1A1 i knoq the A1 had a 120mm
