Wow... 3 years since staff joined the forums

While we didn’t make the forums available for a few months after this early soft-launch it’s still amazing it’s been 3 years already. I can’t remember when we let everyone else try it out, but I do know we had both forums going simultaneously for a time. Someone will I am sure remind me.

And the moan-n’-groan fest afterwards about all the bits and pieces that weren’t exactly as before.
The campaign ribbons.
The counter showing the number of posts.
The Like-button (heart).
Membership levels.
Earning little badges (a tad cheesy and a little fun too)
The ease of posting pictures but some were too busy moaning and groaning to notice.
The “System” which warns about potential spammers, red-flagged and quarantined directly they post their spam

I remember the timing of this because my, now 13 yo computer, wasn’t able to update it’s own OS anymore. I couldn’t even see the new site

Since then tho, I bought the Mrs. a new laptop. I’m still testing it out…

The main migration began in Sept/Oct 2020 but from memory testing had been going on since maybe April (?). So here’s a prototype birthday cake on behalf of the Armor cohort…needs work…

Rubberband or indy?

This is so much better than I would have achieved. You could enter it in the scratch built category.

I remember Robin and Jim having to hand enter half of us that couldn’t get it

So is that why the rock star formerly known as Robin changed his name to Uncle-Heavy? :guitar:

—mike

Yes indeed I remember that too & some have never fully recovered from being hand-entered…

Maybe indirectly.
My favourite author, Terry Pratchett, passed away (Alzheimers) and I chose to use the alias used
by one of the characters in Discworld: Albert | Discworld Wiki | Fandom
In the book ‘Hogfather’ he uses the alias Uncle-Heavy when acting as Hogfathers elf (Hogfather is Discworlds twisted mirror image of Santa Claus, sleigh pulled by hogs instead of reindeer).
Some kid in a toy shop asks Hogfathers elf about his name and Albert answers Uncle Heavy.
Imagine the Santa displays in large malls, there is always a few kids who try to be “smart”, combine this with the various “Bad Santa” movies.
The role as Hogfather is played by Death himself, someone is trying to change the world by “assassinating” the Hogfather. Hogfather exists thanks to the belief in him by millions of kids and adults. The assassin tries to “kill” Hogfather by removing that belief.
Pratchetts books are hilariously funny while holding up a “satire mirror” to humanity.

Was it only three years ago? The way the forums are alight you’d think they were like this from the birth of Kitmaker! I know I was sceptical about some of the functionality, but it’s grown up fast and is super easy to use now.

As for Terry Pratchett, that’s a sad loss. And I know the guy who sorted out the steamroller event where his hard disk was crushed (at his request) to prevent half-finished works going the Tolkien route…
