G,
Nice paint job on that Gecko figure Don, very impressive,
.
G,
My useless lighting setup isn’t doing me any favours but I think I’ve got the body just about done.
I hate faces.
I decided I wasn’t happy with my first go, so I stripped it back and took another shot. Which I am even less happy about then before.
Everything keeps coming out very monotone flat. I really don’t know where I’m going wrong. Paints are thinned, layers are happening. But alas, more zombie.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Did you try the SBS a few posts up at (#332) by Lazarus?
Twice… . And one that’s worked well for me in the past.
Actually now that I’ve stuck his helmet back on and the whole thing is together, I’m happy with it. Just going to let it be.
Also successfully managed to create bog roll in 1:35!
Perfect! RollingOTFL!
Don on the close up of the head I can see 3 or 4 different shades there. I think that face looks pretty great.
I’d be pleased if my figures turned out as well as yours Don, and as for the bog roll, sh1t, that’s no cr@p effort in that scale, you’ve dung a great jobbie of it…sorry folks,
.
G,
Hi lads, sorry I’ve been away for a bit. Got roped into doing 12hr night shifts so, no bench time or other time, come to think of it….
Nice to see more folks posting their stuff now. This campaign is really moving now!
Don, that chap looks great! Never seen a roll of ar$e wipe that small before! The face, maybe try an aftermarket head? Injection moulded faces have a tendency to be a bit bland. This can make it difficult to shade & highlight them. Failing that, try to darken the area around the eyes just a tiny bit and highlight the nose and chin a bit more. You’ll tend to find that at these small scales, things need to be emphasised slightly. It’s more of an artistic thing more than looking true to life. If you were to paint realistically, your figures would have very little detail.
Mike, all coming together nicely now. Still want to see them in camo though .
G-man, everyone here is at different levels. The common denominator is that everyone wants to improve and learn from each other. Just pile in mate!
Looking forward to seeing more so, keep ‘em coming! And, to all who haven’t posted their work yet, come on lads, we’ve only got nine months left……
G.
Thanks for the invite Lazarus, likewise to Ryan, Michael and Don for their earlier invites,
. I feel like a bit of a fraud joining in as I’m posting many of the same images in another build where the figures will be used to populate a small diorama I’m working on.
However, it’s getting close to completion, with the exception of the figures, and I’m running out of steam, and probably will not finish the figures if left to my own devices,
…know thine own frailties and weaknesses,
.
So, if no one objects I will transfer the figure elements to this campaign as I hope it will help keep me on the straight-and-narrow, .
G,
Well as the campaign grand poobah, that is why I invited you as those figures in that campaign qualified to be here as well. So you can move the figures here as you so choose. I cannot guarantee the straight and arrow, as I am broken and there more then few other malcontents not fit for society types in this group as well.
Is there a secret handshake to get past the Tyler, …and no, before anyone asks, I’m not a Mason I had to google the name of the lodge doorkeeper,
.
G,
If you know, you know.
OMG a figure I’m happy with!
Still needs a little clean up in places. I’ve also got some rank stripe decals I’m going to try to finish him off.
Hi all,
I need to create a relatively high number of early WW2 British troops and some Royal Navy personnel in 1/72nd scale for a quayside diorama I’m working on in a railway campaign.
The troops will either be war weary Dunkirk evacuees, or those assisting them, and the RN personnel will be mainly centred on crewing a small boat transferring from ship-to-shore.
For the troops I’m going to use mainly Zvezda figures on the back of recommendations from our Grand Poobah himself…he has the uncanny, and disturbing, ability to make me part with my hard earned pocket money whenever I read his posts,
.
The RN personnel will probably come from Airfix/Dapol railway figures as I need ‘hard plastic’ for conversions.
My first attempt is a set of three troops, two of which are supporting an injured comrade.
First stage, the two supporting figures from the box are initially identical, but I have changed the lower leg position slightly on one, and with the moulded arms being removed and new ones being sculpted afresh I’m hoping there will be enough difference to avoid them being identical twins, .
The chap being supported is simply the head and torso with the gasmask bag shaved off.
Stage two is the start of building up the lower body, legs and arms. It’s the first time I’ve used ‘greenstuff’, it’s less messy than ‘milliput’, but the jury is out as to whether I like it,
.
Stage three is trying to put some detail in to the amputated limbs and shaved torso.
Any, and all advice regarding figure construction, converting and painting greatly appreciated.
Cheers, ,
G
Nice looking figure Don, I like the naturally casual air you’ve created, the ever present mug of tea, and the loo paper tucked in to the crook of his elbow…absolutely no doubt as to where he’s off to. The paintwork is excellent, nicely subtle, and very realistic to my eyes,
.
G,
Outstanding figure Don! You sure know he’s going about his business. I wish mine came out half that good.
@ G-man69. I believe frauds and malcontents are all welcome here. Hell, they let me in! As far as a secret handshake… I believe there was one initially, however, it was dispensed with when I showed-up with too many Hornet Hands.
@ Canmedic. With that expression on Pvt. Boggins’ face, it looks that he is on a mission to a jolly glorious morning! I like the groundwork and how it points a clear path to his success.
Very nicely done!
BTW: It has been rumored that a kegger… er, “casker” will be hosted by the Grand Poobah a.k.a. Fearless Leader himself when this campaign ends.
Don, brilliant! “ Just off for a sh#te lads!” (Said in a Yorkshire accent). Scenario I think everyone here is familiar with. Seems you’ve got the same sense of humour as me. No wonder my daughter thinks I’m a bad influence on her kids……
G.
Thanks friend!
It’s a walk I’ve taken many times my self so the thought process was fairly natural!
