Zvezda has few sets in this scale.

The leader in quantity and assortment in this scale is another Russian company AVD Models. But it produces sets mainly based on Soviet and Russian prototypes.

Foreign buyers can buy them in Unomag online store.

A stalled project I had but an example of what they can produce in 1/43.

I do like the look of the Red Bull Kamaz. I do have both the Kamaz and 3909 in 1/35 but as I recall I do like the 1/43 plastic.

Was it founded as a private enterprise in the USSR?

Zvezda started as a small enterprise in one of the workshops of a large Moscow plant. As soon as private entrepreneurship was allowed in the USSR, model maker Konstantin Krivenko with a good technical education organized his own business.
To accumulate start-up capital, Zvezda initially produced parts for furniture supports and corners for laying tiles on the machines at its disposal.
Having saved up money and received loans, the first self-assembly kit was released in 1990. It was called “Red Army Infantry”.

In 1993, a bankrupt plastic toy factory located near Moscow was bought out. The search for partners abroad began. The Italian “Italeri” responded.

The Italians gave the factory equipment that allowed the production of several models of equipment and sold them under the “Zvezda” trademark. At the same time, they became shareholders of “Zvezda”. True, the cooperation was short-lived - after a few years, the Italians revised the agreement, left the shareholders, but left the equipment and molds.

In 2014, the general director of Zvezda, Konstantin Krivenko, passed away. Today, Zvezda is the largest Russian manufacturer of assembly models and board games with an annual turnover of more than 300 million Russian rubles. The company occupies about 75% of the Russian market for assembly models and annually produces about 500 types of products, of which about 80 are new products sold in more than 50 countries around the world.
