Flakfan

The Ancient Modeller. I’ve never stopped. Now realising a lifetimes fascination with WW2 German Flak.
I was born 8 years after WW2 and back then there were lots of toys for boys on the Atomic theme. The first model I remember being given was a Lindberg B58 Hustler. I never built it. Far too difficult for a 6 year old. As I grew up so did the collection of Airfix, Frog, Revell aircraft hanging from my bedroom ceiling. Wealthy Parents allowed me to build expensive kits in the late 1960’ early70’s. In my teens I was building Tamiya 1/12 race cars and the remote controlled 1/25 Tiger which I did in a faded winter camo on my own Zimmerit. I still have it.
In 1978 I saw Star Wars and a love of sci-fi modelling began. Back then there were no kits and I was broke, living in Australia. So I began scratchbuilding spaceships from junk. This went on with many adventures until 2020 and the COVID lockdowns. By this time I just wanted something simple and easy. Like a kit with all the bits in a box, with instructions. I had an Italaeri Flak 43 so built it amid the hysteria of the pandemic. That was it. I’m off on a new journey to build the biggest Flak Collection.
