The flags I really don’t care about, It’s the C Rat Boxes that interest me. Now to get them here in the U.S. that may be a problem.
The tattered flag reminded me of something that’s really interesting, history-wise. In a yearly, nighttime ceremony, the 2nd Engineer Battalion of the United States Army, reenacts the events during the Battle of Kunu-Ri (Nov 27 - 29, 1950). The 2nd Engineers held the line near the village of Kunu-dong , fighting a rear guard action to maintain an open escape route for American forces to withdraw; but fearing the Chinese Army would overwhelm the Battalion, Colonel Alarich Zacherle, ordered all equipment to be destroyed, including the Battalion colors and battle streamers before withdrawing to ensure they would not fall into Chinese hands.
The Battalion was overrun and only 266 of the 977 soldiers of the 2nd Engineer Battalion escaped; the rest were either killed or captured by the Chinese, including Col. Zacherle himself.
Cool. I went to one of the ceremonies when I was in Korea in 1999. It was a moving ceremony.
