You’re the latest to nudge me towards attempting a 1:16 kit, I’m liking your progress a lot bravo. To me the issue is what could be approximated (or even “bodged”) in 1:35 won’t cut it at half the scale. You’ve mentioned after-market stuff & the expense – apart from the tyres which are obviously very visible, to what extent would you say the plethora of add-ons are pointless given they’ll never be seen on the finished article, unless it’s an exploded wreck or has every possible hatch open?

Hoo, that’s a loaded question Martin! They have corrected tracks and drive sprockets, spare road wheels, breech block, muzzle brakes and jerrycans that would be nice if cost is no concern. They also have corrected seats, internal seat back lockers, but I don’t think those are worth it, especially in the pakeagen where the gun support structure hides a lot. I just got the sagged wheels and stowage bin locks with chains, maybe I should have picked up some more stuff…

(It’s Tim) Yeah I know I was bowling a bit of a googlie, sorry Colin but good answer! Certainly I appreciate external fixtures may be worth getting improved versions – although without doing the research I’d be cautious about whether the add-ons really are improvements, or could the kit versions be tinkered with to get the same effect? Especially because – in my case anyway – I’d throw serious weathering and mud at the external surfaces which tend to hide at least some imperfections. Horses for courses as always.

Whoops, sorry Tim! Yeah, you might be able to fiddle with the kit parts for some of them, haven’t really looked closely at the differences.

Finally got around to installing the firewall and forward lower hull sides:

On to the fighting compartment floor and seats.

Also got some tint on the armoured glass, a thinned mixture of Tamiya clear green and clear blue.

And all that work covered up…

Looking good. Im not sure about that green tint? I thought that was a museum piece?

Hmmm, you may be right, I thought I saw a green tint on what I thought were original vision blocks, but I could be mistaken
