So, I think I’ve found a cheap source of 1/35 shells and casings: supports from 3D printed things. They seem to be the right diameter (ish), they’re tapered at one end and they’ll take paint like the parts themselves. Anyone else try this?
I have suggested using the supports for the actual projectiles in 25mm casings. They work well, and I need more actual ammo than I do casings, so it works out.
The last photo in this thread, although the whole thread is worth reading if you’re into the Bradley:
That would work for supports intended for resin 3D prints, but most of the types of supports for FDM printers bear no resemblance whatever to the straight tubes you want for ammunition.
Alas, I’ve only ever gotten resin parts and have no experience with any others.
That’s a really good idea. It would take more time to set up the print, but all sorts of small equipment parts could serve as sections of supports. Ammunition storage tubes and shell cases are obvious candidates but ammunition crates, packs, rolls, and even tarps could also do the job.
