1/35 BREM-2 Light Recovery Vehicle finished

I finally got my BREM-2 finished in a mad dash before the MMSI (Military Miniatures Society of Illinois) show in Chicago. Incidentally, I got a gold for it.

The BREM-2 (early in this case) was based on the BMP-1 chassis and designed to do light recovery and repair work in the field, like engine and transmission replacements. The early versions had the cable spool “under armor” in the boom while the “late” version had the spool above the rear of the boom.

This is the Trumpeter BMP-1 kit with the SP Designs conversion. It is also the first kit I ever did 3D design and printing for. I made the commanders AAMG mount and stand for a friend who needed replacement parts during covid. I then ended up making replacement “hoop” stands in the rear box (supposedly for holding transmissions). It was marked up for Ukrainian service in the current conflict in Ukraine. It was a fun build and I think it came out very nice.

Wonderful rendition of this vehicle Jacques and a thoroughly deserved award. The tone of the green you have achieved is particularly nice- what paint did you use for it?

I use a black primer, then start with Model Master Acrylic Black green. I lighten it with a tan color (nothing specific) and begin lightening the panels. I dry brush and highlight details with a very light tan (and sometimes a light grey if I think it will look good), then use a burnt umber filter (in future floor polish) to tone highlights down and unify the look. I then use a dark brown or near black wash to get the deep lines and as a pinwash, removing most of it as I clean it up. Then a flat coat.
