1/35 BRM-1 artillery recon and surveillance vehicle

1/35 conversion into the Soviet BRM-1. Originally designed to be two vehicles: a dedicated
reconnaissance vehicle and a dedicated artillery scouting and observation vehicle. They were combined into the BRM-1. It has a laser rangefinder, a observation radar, and carries 2 observation crews (of 2) as well as a vehicle crew of 3. The turret was enlarged for its mission and was eventually the base for the BMP-2 turret.

This is the Trumpeter BMP-1 kit converted with a SP Designs kit. I 3D designed and printed the large telescoping antenna case over the rear doors as the one I had broke and scattered when dropped. (Uh oh…) It was finished in a late 1980’s cammo scheme from somewhere in Eastern Europe (I think in the GDR, but I am not sure). I have always wanted a kit of this and the PRP-3, and with the SP Designs conversions, I now have them. So much fun.

The first photo had me baffled.

Are the Russkies serious? Did they put an observer on an elevated seat,
totally unprotected? The other images showed that it was some kind of radar
or surveillance device and not a seat + back rest …
