1/35 Flakturm Heiliggeistfeld Hamburg

Build it from scratch last year and would like to finish it but there are some 60 figures to do which annoys me to say the least…!
But I think a few pics are worth to post…unfortunately I am allowed only five of#em

Welcome aboard Frank. Interesting diorama.
Best of luck on the figures.

Wow! That is one hell of a model! Fantastic!

Always a fan of the Flak Towers, not least when I tracked down this book; the design, the evolution and execution of the things just blew me away.

Picture of book below for those fans of the same who may be unaware:

Well done again Frank.

Wow- that is a hugely imposing piece of work Frank- should look a real treat with some figures on it as it will give it an even greater sense of scale. How did you go about building it?

-constructed it from MDF, which means the whole thing is quiet sturdy and wheighs around 20 kg

For some time during war the tower was painted mainly black for nighttime camo purposes

Now that is interesting; I have seen a photograph of one of the Towers in a camouflage-painted finish in a book somewhere; it definitely showed a disruptive scheme - it may have been the Zoo one, but I always wondered what the colours were.

That tower is way super cool. A few months back, Wade (Armor_Buff) posted pictures of a wood flak tower he built, leading to a discussion of flak towers in general. That is when I learned about the massive, concrete towers like the one you built. I have wanted to build some form of flak tower ever since.

So much could be done with a structure like that. It would be fun to add something like a local delivery truck dropping off milk.

I’ve started working on the figures which means some are stock items others need to be build or at least “modified”. I can provide some photos later today…

Great work, Frank. What are you going to do with the model after finishing it ? In that scale it’s quite a large object.

wow … now that that is an impressive bit of engineering … and its massive !!! Looks like loads of great detailing already on it, and once some figures turn up for manning the guns, it will look superb… And of course … Welcome to the forums Frank. You are only able to upload 5 images at a time as you are a new member, once you have posted more and replied to other topics, your trust level increases and you will be able to post more images in one go etc,

Many thanks for the warm welcome guys. What am I gonna do with that “thing”. I want to build the ZOO Tower also. Since their is a shop in Leiden (Netherlands) that do the upper part of the Zoo tower with the Panzerkuppeln of the Munitionsaufzüge in all detail and then compairing the two Towers…

This is something I’ve always wanted to do but a) Didn’t have the resources at the time, and b) probably still haven’t the engineering/modelling skills.

This promises to be awesome!

A vehicle running on rationed fuel that’s very scarce anyway, dropping off a rationed substance that’s likely to be very scarce in the middle of a major city in the middle of a war?

Those young boys manning the guns have got to have their milk or they won’t grow into big boys.

If anything I would have thought the Flak crews would take a certain priority(!)

Whatever. I was trying to help.

What an impressive build! I can only imagine what it’s going to be like with figures.
