1/35 Hobby Boss ZBD-89 APC

It’s been a long hiatus (some 20 odd years) since I last picked up model making. The urge came back during the pandemic and thanks to Taobao, tools and kits came easily at hand, I started with some easy to make 1/72 aircraft kits to get the hang of it.
My recent project in 1/35 scale AFV is the Hobby Boss ZBD-89 Armoured personnel carrier. (I’ve tried the Bronco YW-531 APC earlier, but it came to an abrupt end and gave it up for the time being, fitting problems with the hull, fiddly track links etc.).
Compared with the Bronco kit, Hobby Boss is simpler and easier to build, downside is the lack of interior details.

Welcome along Eric!

A good few years ago I also had to give up the Bronco YW-531 (mine was the C version) as the tracks kept falling apart on me.

This looks like a great build- any thoughts on paint schemes?

Thankyou all for the rapturous welcome, admittedly I used to be too shy to post my humble efforts and just browsed forums to admire other’s master pieces and gain some inspiration on what to build.

For this 1/35 “starter”, I have completed the construction and sprayed it with Tamiya Acrylics. I’m painting it in the early 90’s PLA three tone camouflage. The colours are more subtle and darker than what is advised in the instructions. Though my airbrushing skills are elementary at best and had much difficulty controlling the viscosity and amount of paint flow. Also I used blutack to mark out camouflage outlines, but it left an “oil stain” on the paint work, so may be I need to practise more on airbrushing technique to try spraying “freehand”.

3 Crew figures are pinched from an old stash Trumpeter tank kit and it adds some “vitality” to the static display.

Excellent paintwork- accurate looking colors and some figs to bring a bit of life to the vehicle.
