Hopefully today i can have some stowage updates…. Ran into a paint problem with all the ammo boxes, so i had to remove all the paint and prime and playing re paint them again

I take a very small amount of pigment, (I make my own out of pastel chalks) or fine dirt, add it the rust paint on a pallette, then daub it on to the muffler and exhaust pipe. The trick is to do it randomly, so there are no brush marks. Some people use Talc or baking soda instead of pigment. The point is, the rust paint has a rough texture already in it.
Use an old crappy brush for this, it will ruin a good brush.

It’s been a while but i have some updates

Finally got the doors done! This was not easy

Found this awesome little radio stl online

I assume this is what the radio area would look like with all the maps back in the 90”s…. Let me know if I’m wrong about this
Thanks!

The radio area looks pretty good. Maps are in the right place. You could add some cabling to the radio to dress it up a bit.

Some examples.

Awesome detail work on the doors.

If I’m seeing this correctly, the map on top of the radio is in a case. If so, that’s exactly how I used to carry maps. In something like this:

They come in different styles. I’ve still got a couple of them somewhere in the garage.
Otherwise, that’s a lot of maps just hanging around.

If that’s not a map case in the photo they’re easy enough to replicate - cellophane tape for the clear cover and painted masking tape for the border.

could you show us one of your model maps please.

Why not? Back from lunch - it took a minute to get the right shine. Normally I try to avoid it. The one time I want a reflection it doesn’t want to show up.

Those were easy to make using 100 MPH tape and clear acetate; add some paracord on the corners to tie it all up neatly. All the parts were readily available from the supply cage.

That’s exactly what this one is supposed to replicate. Back in the day (damn that makes me sound old) I never bought anything I couldn’t make for myself.

That’s up to you. 6-8 mm square gives you a window large enough to show 20x20 klicks (or about 3 x 3 the size of a military protractor) And as you can see by the folds, we would fold them up to make them more manageable.

Looking forward to seeing yours.

In DIVARTY 1AD, we didnt get SINCGARS until just before going down range to Bosnia in 95. Not 100% sure if the entire division had transitioned to the new radios by then.

When I went with 2ACR in 97 we had SINCGARS.

Klaus, not what you expected to see, was it? Not like the real one in the photo, at any rate. But as Reynier said, this is how we made them back in the day.

Need some stowage guidance… this humvee won’t be equipped with a 50cal so should i omit the ammo boxes? I could probably use more water cans and probably a gas can….
What else could i throw in the back?
Thinking bring this stl… wondering if it’s accurate

Thanks!

Where that says 20L mine all say “Property of US Governemnt.” I guess that’s not really true any more. No telling if they’re correct on the bottom, but it doesn’t matter unless you’ve got them on their side. Have you considered one of these sets? You get a lot more stuff.

As for .50 cal ammo cans - there is always a need for them - waterproof containers for various things, like cleaning kits. And the rear could have a go bag for everyone, which should contain stripped down MRE’s, so need need for MRE boxes unless you really like folding them up. A few rucks maybe, sleeping mats, in fact most of the stuff in the left hand set.
