Starting a new project… hopefully it will be finished within a month…. I’m would like to build a regular m1025 m60 mount and NATO 3 camo either in kosovo or Bosnia…. Anybody got any pictures of such? What kind of radio was used in this time periods?
And anybody have a copy of the lionroar pe instructions?
A classic that never goes out of style.
The only be on the left is an M1043 and the one on the right is an M1025. Both started life as Tamiya M1025s; I just swapped the doors with the one from the Tamiya M1046 TOW Carrier to make the USMC version with the supplements armored doors.
Awesome! I really appreciate that!
I didn’t know there were a difference in doors…. I figured this build i keep it old school haha
What do you want to build specifically? I have more than 60 Humvees of different versions built in my collection. I’m happy to help, just tell me what you want to build.
M1025 w/M60 from IFOR ('95-'96).
A couple KFOR HMMWVs. The first is an M1114 and has a M249 SAW mounted.
The second is an M1025 and has a Mk 19 AGL.
For radios, they would most likely be SINCGARS. They were fielded in the mid-late 90s. Some units still could have had the prior Series - 46 radios such as the AN/VRC-64 system that comes in the Tamiya kit.
So i started this build last night and i realized im missing the rubber sprue with the tires and poly caps…. So i guess ill start with the interior for now
Just a standard m1025 either in Bosnia or kosivo… i was thinking about doing something from Somalia but i think those used were m998’s… right?
Get resin tires. PM me your email address so I can send the scans later.
That first image is exactly what I’m going for
OK my research was clearly wrong then… when did the m1025’s first come into service?
The M1025 is the hardtop version that was fielded as one of the first types in the mid '80s. The M998 is the soft top version that was fielded alongside the M1025.
There were four separate variants that were fielded back in the 80s.
The M1025 Armament Carrier with basic doors and no winch.
The M1026 Armament Carrier with basic doors and winch.
These were used mainly by the US Army.
The there is the M1043 Armament Carrier with Supplemental Armor doors and no winch.
And finally the M1044 Armament Carrier with Supplemental Armor doors and the winch.
These variants were mainly used by the USMC; and also had the extended exhaust and intake ( part of the water fording kit).
All were designed to carry the M60 GPMG, the M2 BMG and the Mk-19 GMG.
Other variants were the TOW carrier versions (M966/M1036/M1045/M1046).
The M966 TOW Carrier was actually the version that the original requirement was written for. The program was widened for a vehicle to replace all light utility vehicles (M151s, Gamma Goats, CUCVs, etc.) with one and we got the HMMWV series out of it. The M998 and M1025 were the two original designs for a soft top cargo/troop carrier and hard top armament carrier respectively. The M997 Ambulance was also in the original batch of designs.
Thanks everybody for this wealth of information… before i decide on which way to go with this project i have a few more questions
Could The units in kosivo/ Bosnia could have the AN/VRC-64 or sincgars radio, and without the armored doors?
Were units in gothic serpent pretty much special forces? so the radio setup would be a little more complicated?
For Kosovo/Bosnia, they could have AN/VRC-64 radios and the unarmored doors.
For Somalia, they could also have AN/VRC-64 radios as well. Basic SOF HMMWVs didn’t carry special radios at that time.
SOF definitelty had AN/PRC 113s. They may have, like many other things, have hard wired them into the vehicles. They would have at least carried them.
Djiti offers a soldier using one, but for the most part it’s hidden in the backpack.
