Caterpillar D7E
H.P.
There’s a cool video of Marines from 3rd Engineers, Prepping and deploying their ABVs in support of 1/6 Marines, near Sangin
I haven’t yet gone through most of this thread yet, though I plan to since the Assault Breacher vehicle is something I’ve always been interested in since first seeing the model kit. I did want to say to the OP that you did a really fabulous job on your M1A2 SEPv2 TUSK II which you posted at the beginning of your thread!
Thanks H.P.
Any idea what the difference is between the D7E and the D7G ?
Got no idea…But the more I think about it the more I believe the one in the video is in fact a D7G (like the Hobby Link one). The picture in my previous post could be miscaptioned…
D7G

A further complication:
Modern D7E (electric drive motors, don’t know where the electricity comes from)
An old D7E
" The D7 was first manufactured in 1938. A series of improved models were later produced, including the D7C in 1955, the D7D in 1959, the 160 hp (120 kW) D7E in 1961, the 180 hp (130 kW) D7F in 1969 and the 200 hp (150 kW) D7G in 1974. In 1986 the 215 hp (160 kW) D7H was the first D7 equipped with Caterpillar’s elevated drive sprocket undercarriage. The D7R replaced the D7H in 1996, followed by the D7R Series 2. The electric drive D7E entered service in early 2009, returning to a traditional ‘flat-track’ configuration for this iteration only. The high-drive design returned in 2020 with the introduction of the D7 (forgoing a generational letter under Caterpillar’s new naming system).[citation needed]"
One difference is the 40 hp from D7E (1961) to D7G (1974)
I would say it’s a G model. When I went in in 71 we trained on D7Es and Allis Chalmers TD20s. In Nam we had D7Es. When I was finishing up my time in 73/74 we had switched from Es to F models, but they were going to the Gs. For that time frame I’m sure they would have had the G models by then. Wayne
Thanks everybody
And yes because I saw Hobby Link has a G version, I was wondering.
I guess I just have to order the G version ![]()
That is spectacular!
Thank you ![]()
Excellent job, that’s a great scene you’ve made.
Great build and great final scene. Looks superb.
Damn amazing. Mi e is just languishing in my workbench. Been focusing on doing home improvements to my new house and my focus has been away from modeling for a while.
I really have to get back on the bench as soon as possible.
That looks fantastic.
Outstanding finish. The ground work, weathering, and paint on the figures is very realistic.
I saw plenty of sheep in the Helmand Provence when I was there
Very nice weathering there.
That is excellent work.
