One of the keys to modulator is to really exaggerate the contrast knowing that the clear coat and subsequent weathering will tone everything down. It’s also important to apply very thing multiple layers to slowly build up the effect. Thin multiple layers gives you more control but does increase the time it takes to paint. Still a cracking good looking build.
Thanks guys!
@Armorsmith I will keep that in mind.
Im super exited as I found a way to make really realistic mud for my model. I had run out of Vallejo texture and I had to try something else so I grabed some dry earth color craft paint and mixed it with a little matt PVA and fine sand from outside. The result is a nice (surprisingly) in scale dry earth effect that I will just refine a bit more with enamels.
The tools and stowage are just base coated.
The bucket broke off in this pic.
That is beautiful
Thanks Chris! Glad to still see you around.
Well, I went to my LHS and bought this kit. Your excellent build inspired me!

Ezra’s singlehandedly sending StuG purchases to the moon (@Panzer_modeler are you being paid off by MiniArt???)
I wish! But Im glad Im inspiring people to buy StuG’s, they’re so cool! (Better than more Tiger i’s )
And yes, Im buying the new Miniart StuG iii with the full interior…
I managed to find time to add some dust and mud effects to the StuG iii after adding light chipping and a wash.
Earth effects are something Ive always struggled with but I think the result I got is promising. I also started the dust effects on the upper hull.
(The stowage is just basecoated)
All the effects were done with Enamals.
Any feedback on what I can improve?
Nice,i like the modulation and the amount of weathering.
I have found that dust effects are best replicated using a combination of AB and pigments. Using a very very thin paint mixture of a light tan or buff color to slowly build up the effect. Pigments without any type of fixer can then also be applied to enhance or fine tune the effect. Pigments are after all nothing but scale dust. These need to be applied over a matt finish which allows the pigments to adhere without the need for a fixer. Good luck
Well Ive managed to find a bit of time to work on the Stug. Im working on the dry dust effects and the base. Its my first big 1/35 tank base so I think its turning out fairly ok so far.
Hopefully it should be done in a week or so.
Looking good to me!
Nice ground work.
Nice looking Stug Ezra! That base is so cool! Hope you’ve still got your eyebrows after singeing those edges!

Beautiful work, a real stunner. Thank you for sharing your work with us. Best regards…Dale
Really lovely work, it looks right which in my mind is what we aim at. Nothing overdone, nothing out of context. Just right mate.
Keith
Great work Ezra. All the ground in dirt really looks fantastic. The streaking is really nice.
You are doing a great job! I love the paint jobs on the pioneer tools.
Bill
Nice job on the base. Dusting on the vehicle is also nicely rendered
Thanks alot @Armor_Buff @justsendit @Dale_Hines @kornbeef @SSGToms @WilliamHarry and @Armorsmith !!!
Dont worry Mike, no fire was used in the making of the base
It was just a ton of fun airbrush practice.
Well Im chugging away at the earth effects and this may be the best they have ever turned out. Im really happy with how natural its looking.
The box is one of @Chris_Bryan resin castings.
The fire extinguisher is soon to be painted and have its own unique weathering.
Just noticed I need to paint the jack block…
Exra, it might be too late, but maybe some stencilling on the crates? I’m guessing the one for the veggies was repurposed from somewhere.
