The metal culverts were all flanged in my day. Plus they had a series of bolt holes in the flanges. That photo of the Chinook is one of the few times I ever saw them in bundle. Looks like they’re building a 155 howitzer battery someplace. They are the only ones to use timbers that big.

Some culvert covered storage ,
On my own for the week
This week taking a break from the apoxie sculpt. So I will be mostly wearing only my shorts and doing some real model building. I am planning to scratch a conex container (fingers crossed )

Hi Piet,
Great work, so detailed and believable, a real work of art, .
Cheers, ,

This was my main source already, thanks anyway for your interest.
You get a week off ,and you end up doing Jack@#%! with your hobby and doing house work instead ,
Not happy with this project ‘’ binned’’…maybe in the future i will have a second attempt.
Back to the 2 hours bench time a day if i am lucky,
Got some more Apoxie sculpt and i got plenty ideas!
Stay tuned.
What did you dislike, it looks great from here?
The overall look , the dimensions are correct but something is off .
For Shirley i am
bury tat Conex container about two thirds of the way Then sand bag the rest. We had one that we had to abandon. Seem to have been about sixteen or twenty foot deep and maybe eight feet wide at best. I bet the locals turned into a high end condo!
roof’s not right
I take it …these were old French concrete watchtowers Reinforced by the US with sandbags .
The Lang Vei TOC bunker ,definitely a square tower
Also seen in this Painting But without what looks like two square openings… you see on the Aerial picture.
This one is also named The Lang Vei TOC bunker, but it has a Octagonal tower
As seen in this this painting and with the destroyed PT-76 in the same position as in the first picture (aerial)
definitely not the same as the first two ,are there any photo’s of the square tower before it was destroyed ?
I’ve been to A101 once and maybe twice on a look around. There was two men we came in contact with that were at A101 when over ran. Think the second guy was part of the hatchet force leading a serious MIKE Force that retook the place.
That PT76 burnout was still there (9 months later). I well remember listening to a very candid discussion between a certain Marine Major who was promptly relieved a week or so later for refusing to fire his precious 105s on the camp. The guys on the radio were under that tank in a basement. Then the tank fired off a round and the Marine asked what that bang was? Then the guy said quietly that it must have been his generators back firing! There are actual recordings you can listen to over this. SF came back about 36 hours later and turned the place into a grave yard. Body count was 350KIA. If memory is right that was Vinnies first MIKE Force op.

That first picture is not the TOC bunker. It’s the one with the tank ontop it. By the way there were several conventional looking buildings there, and were still standing when I went thru the place

Culvert looks amazing and thanks to all for great photos.
Hey Piet! Not long after seeing this post I ordered some Apoxie and was playing around a couple days ago making sandbags, this stuff is pretty neat, thanks for sharing, I admit my work needs a little more finesse but turned out okay, the flutes are easier to make than I expected. I’m understaning better now how much work you’re putting into a fortification, nice looking representations.
