Thank you for the kind comment.

Some good progress over the weekend. The open bridge needed a little work. I have added some of Black Cat’s 3D printed voice pipes, most of the rest is scrap bits and pieces. The Captain’s chair, next to the binnacle is a left over bit of etched ladder.

With some paint on, needs a bit of tidying up, and few more bits and pieces adding.

The cover over the HACS needs a bit more work.

.

Both funnels fixed in place, and the steam pipes fitted to the forward funnel, The bridge is just test fitted in place. Finishing off the bridge, fitting the railings around Q gundeck, and Q turret are the next jobs.

What was the purpose of those benches?

The honest answer is I don’t know, Nor have I found any decent evidence of where they came from. I will keep on the trail and post my findings on here.

Love the benches! I suppose if the USS New Jersey could have a swimming pool, the Naiad could have park benches for the crew!

The Benches are an interesting feature, Who got to sit on them is another matter, whether they were for the Ratings, Petty Officers or Officers, I couldn’t possibly comment.

Some more progress thus week, mostly getting the bridge finished. I might a few figures on the compass platform.

All three forward turrets in place.

The inclined ladders from the upper bridge down the signal deck, these really tested by etch skills, still need a little adjustment to straighten a few bits out.Hopefully I won’t destroy them doing that.

More soon, I hope.

Hello, my first post & follow for a few years. Saw this & would like to watch this build, a great kit that’s in my stash and I am waiting for the YZM super detail set to arrive from Hong Kong. Also keen to build with the camo style that you are using, the real ships camo is a bit daunting. Cheers from Sydney, AU.

Hi Peter, welcome aboard. I saw the YMZ set on Ebay, looks very good indeed. The open compass platform on the bridge looked exceptional, so did a lot of the other parts. I had the fun of adding some detail to the compass platform. The dark hull light upper-works scheme is correct for the Naiad from mid 1941 and very probably was still wearing when she was torpedoed and sunk by U565 on 11/03/42. I agree the kit scheme is a bit daunting, also the dark hull light upper-works really shows off the racy lines of the ship..

Good luck with your build, I hope you are going to post your build, with the YMZ set I will definitely be following along.

Some progress on the Naiad, all the boats in place, all the armament, most of the work has been in the midships area between the two funnels. I slight whoops last weekend, working on the quarterdeck my magnifying specs slipped off my face and hit the quarterdeck knocking almost all the mushroom vents off. Not a problem, i was doing an order to black cat, so just ordered their set of mushroom vents. Midships.

The overview,

More soon(ish)

Coming along nicely!

Thanks for looking in Rory, comparing to the photographs, compares well, It goes together very well.

No real vices, the masts are going to be fun.

Doh! never a good thing when there’s a collision, Si… Fingers crossed for an easy recovery with the black cat AM :crossed_fingers:

Hi Russ,

Received a package from Normandy on Friday, and set of parts in that will sort the problem. I will replace all the mushroom vents with the 3D printed parts, just in case there are slight differences.

I have bought a replacement pair of magnifying spec, making sure I got a pair that had a full headband on them so they shouldn’t slip off, well not so easily.

Thank’s for looking in,

Hi Si,

definitiv very nice progress, she’s looking really good already!

I hope you get the results of your ‘collision’ resolved quickly, the new 3d printed parts from Black Cat should be looking very nice!

Hi Jan,

Thanks for looking in, The Black Cat parts look very good, with a bit of luck, one of the joys of being retired I should get time to fix the “collision” damage.

Hi Jan & Russ and all other shipmates.

All Collision damaged repaired, the Black Cat parts blend in perfectly, fortunately I hadn’t attached the Ensign Staff and the davit for the depth charges.

all damage repaired. Thanks for the support guys.
