In between a heavy spell of AFV modeling, this Tamiya 1/48 MiG-15 Bis mysteriously appears from my stash, albeit without decals. Having checked the discount price tag outside the box, I remembered that it’s from the close-down sale on the Unviersal Model shop on Waterloo Road, Kowloon couple of decades ago!
Anyway, back to the subject, as with Tamiya kits, the overall mold/build is straight forward and I followed the instructions to build it with the tail separated and VK-1 engine exposed. Everything is buillt out of the box, and painted with Tamiya acrylics. Decals I’ve obtained from the Frontpenny 1/48 Mikoyan MiG-15 bis Fagot “Chinese Ace Pilots”, and chose the “Red 35” flown by Zhang Jihui, 12th Fighter Regiment/4th Air Division, during the Korean War. Livery was painted shortly after Zhang claimed the shoot down of Lt. Col. George Davis Jr. (USAF).
I’ve also bought the Bronco 1/48 MiG-15 kits, but most likely they’ll remain in storage for a couple of decades more when it comes round to the centenary of the Korean War!
