I am not sure if I will get to this anytime soon but I need to try and find a resin part. This is the initial F/A-18E in 1/72 by Hasegawa without the ECS Bard stacks. I have had no luck finding them so far. It’s either that or look for decals of the first blocks that did not have them. The kit does give you decals for that era but I would rather do a line bird and not a CAG bird. Never cared for “showey” decals that make a plane “stand out”, just never like the “billboard” look, but that’s just me.

The kit arrived today, I have decided to start it and still look for the ECS Bard stacks. If when I get to the point I have to paint I will use the kit decals as they are for an early model without the ECS stacks.
I started some cockpit work. This is the most spartan cockpit I have seen in a long time. The seat is bland and featureless. I will try to get some seat belts to make it look halfway decent. It is a shame because the last 1/72 Hasegawa jet I did, an F-14A ,had an excellent detailed cockpit with PE parts. This is very bare with a simplified seat, stick and decals for the consoles and instrument panel. Totally unimpressive. The rest of the kit looks to be OK.
Thanks, why doesn’t Hasegawa just make a decent cockpit, why should I keep dishing out money . Those resin parts seem to be out of stock so far

I started wading through the front fuselage, I have the front fuselage and cockpit assembled. I am now tackling the rear fuselage and intakes. I ordered some 3D belts and harnesses for the seat from Kits World.

Front and rear fuselage halves are together and puttied up. Needs a bit of sanding then on to the wings.
