1/72 Takom Chieftain Mk.10 Berlin Brigade
Completed last November. NGL didn’t enjoy masking this camo scheme. Way too many back-and-forth corrections to keep the edges vertical, but it turned out to be beautiful ![]()

It came out beautifully. One of my favorite tanks and camo schemes, and along with the weathering, you did a superb job on it
It did turn out very well, especially in that scale. And as someone who has seen these firsthand, it looks as if you’ve done a really good job of matching the colors.
Edit: I’m on my phone so I didn’t catch this. The engine deck was not left green.
I have to agree. The ones I took pictures of back in 1985 appear to have the engine decks painted dark brown, matching the camo. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pics from directly above. Having said that, great work, I plan on putting the same model together in the coming months.
The Tankograd book I have on the British Berlin Brigade has several pics of the engine deck in brown.
I’s always nice when Tankgrad has your back, ![]()
Chieftains with Simfire (Laser simulation device) - top 2 photos. That 2nd photo is really interesting, showing what looks to be an improvised canvas sun shield for the laser projector above the barrel. 3rd Chief from top left, has just the frame work. The ones in NZ service (& Singapore & Aussie) had a metal sun shield with brick like pattern cooling holes, backed up with what looked like an internal foam layer, same style of perforated metal shield/shroud was also fitted to the RX/TX box that sits above & behind the gun apeture (gun mantlet on anything other than Chieftain).

Really appreciate you sharing these pictures.
I was unsure about the engine deck colour. I found the picture of that shot from the above, but I was hesitant about whether it is the base British olive (oftentimes depicted as green). I ended up following Takom’s painting guide, which shows it as NATO green (questionable choice
). The colour difference does make it a more interesting model.
