12th SS Panzer Division uniform question

Regarding the uniform depicted on the cover of this Concord title, is it the standard HJ coverall uniform in black? I have searched, but searches come back with the panzer wrap.

I did a google image search “Hitler youth black uniform” and it looks to be a two piece uniform, short jacket and trousers.

And it’s nothing to do with 12SSPD (apart from the HJ connection). It is the standard cool weather service uniform of the HJ, supplementing the standard brown shirt and black shorts.

Could it be the one-piece panzer coverall issued in 1943 as worn on the far left figure:

Nope, because although it’s difficult to see in this photo, due to dirt and wear, that item of clothing is camouflaged. I did wonder if it was the black coverall issued to Flak crews, in which a lot of HJ served, but I think Stikpusher has got it dead on.

That item of clothing was originally issued in “reed green” - possibly a light green? So, if as you claim, it was (as per the colorized photo) issued in camo pattern, then it’s not too much of a stretch to assume it was also issued in panzer black.
PS: The “camo” uniform worn in my post may actually be a very dirty and faded (and altered by colorization) reed green version.

I initially thought it was a black flak overalls but the trouser fly and upper button flap don’t match up in the artwork, suggesting the trousers and top are separate garments.

There is a good description of the uniform items as well as plenty of photos of preserved HJ uniform items here

Hmmm…the Volstad art looks similar to the HJ uniform, but there are differences in the number of buttons on the front, and the breast pocket flaps are scalloped on the HJ one, but straight on the Volstad one. The HJ one also seems to be MUCH longer, and may continue to be connected to the lower part.

Apparently there are some variations in the jackets. All appear to be short waisted like an Ike jacket, but have different button and pocket configurations. It’s the winter uniform for the boys.
