Hi automaniacs! It’s been a while between visits but I’ve been tinkering on a project for a Facebook “Long Roof” Group Build, perfect fit for my Tri-5 obsession!
The 409 is from an older kit which had a steel axle running right through the block for the front wheels. This is a bit ugly for me so I covered them up with some thin styrene sheet and sanded it back almost flat.
Interior detail work. Handles are hand painted using SMS Hyperchrome decanted from the paint pen. Speakers got a tough of Tamiya Black PLW. The RHS of the tailgate timber panel has a light coat of Tamiya Brown PLW to show the before and after effect.
Gorgeous model. But there’s something about the 56 I don’t like. I think it’s the grille. I love the 55, the 57, and the 58. Imma still gonna enjoy your build, I’ll just not look at the grille.
Actually, I’m the opposite, probably because during my high school days all the guys wanted the 55s and 57s. I always wanted a 56, just to be different. Ended up with a 63 Impala SS with a 409 when everybody had 327s. How’s that for different? Wayne
D, great to see you back! as usual, great work - the interior - wow! And, the guy on Youtube DD Speed Shop, just picked up two more Nomads. This guy has built several tri-5s, many ground up projects, so likely a pretty good source of detail shot, via screen shots, of practically everything that goes into them -
I decided to follow the grey with a shot of Mahogany primer to help with the coverage of the red areas on the body. This is MS1000 thinned with about 75% levelling thinner and 3 light coats. Obligatory test dry fit of the chassis and tub to see how things are going.
I fitted the air cleaners to the 4 carbs for another trial run in the noisy end. Yep, it’s going to be tight but I think I can make it work. The battery will need to be relocated from the firewall though.
