With the introduction of the M10 Booker into the US ARMY inventory is safe to say the 73rd armored of the 82nd AB will be reformed and equipped with the M10 Booker?
I was thinking of putting my new M10 in operational markings of the 82nd AB
Yes, that is most likely what will happen.
“82nd Airborne Division’s M10 Test Detachment Commander, receives ceremonial shell casing at the M10 Booker Dedication Ceremony, April 2024. Currently, the 82nd Airborne Division’s M10 Booker Test Detachment has adopted the heraldry of the 73rd Armor Regiment.”
The 82nd Airborne used the M551 for the longest time, after other ACR units dropped them after Vietnam. Eventually the 82nd put their Sheridans down because parts were hard to come by.
Even the 11th ACR posted at Ft. Irwin used them in VISMOD for training troops. I still remember seeing them at NTC in the early 90s.
I remember there was a “made for TV” movie called “Heroes of Desert Storm” (available on YT - starting Angela Bassett and Daniel Baldwin); mainly filmed at NTC, where they used an M-551 Sheridan in T-72 dress for the initial invasion of Kuwait sequence. You can clearly see the blank adapter on the cupola-mounted M2 Browning, and the Hoffman simulation device mounted on top.
And Star decals had sheridan decals with that very same unit
That was my favorite tank to use when playing the Vietnam mod Eve of Destruction for Battlefield 1942. I would sit on a hilltop inside some tree cover and camp the other team’s spawn point.
I was so hated. That tank was fast and naughty.
