I decided to assemble several models of rocket technology. The choice fell on the 9a52 “Smerch” from Meng. I started with the most labor-intensive and uninteresting job, rocket guides. Meng completes his kit with a rubber-like circuit board with imitation of various wiring. To put it mildly, this is not the best solution. All parts have the disadvantage of casting -100% replacement. I made new parts, added wiring, bolts, nuts, and some detailing. I will install the missile warheads and engine nozzles after painting.

As a result of the assembly, this will be the most visible part of the chassis. A little rework and imagination, and the transfer case is ready.

Fuel tanks - added a fuel filter, bolts, a few more parts and adjusted the holes in the tank guards
The front bumper. I modified the tow hook, made a headlight guard from 0.18mm wire using soldering.

I wonder how this kit compares to the Trumpeter version?

The MENG kit is more detailed and might be (I am not 100% sure) more accurate. The Trumpeter kit is definitely more simplified, but also quite a bit cheaper. Both have seems on the barrels to deal with. Both build up to look like a Smerch when built.

In my opinion, there are 3 main differences from Meng.
1- in all the photos of the finished model, I did not see the characteristic tilt of the rocket launcher in the stowed position of ± 2 or 3 degrees.
- There is no rocket simulation.
- Slightly less detail.(but the frame and running gear are controversial - after assembly, almost nothing will be visible. ) I have met the opinion that there is something wrong with the Trumpeter’s cabin

I’ll stay away from Trumpeter.
Meng also has problems - all the round and composite parts in my kit slight offsets. I haven’t processed so many parts in a long time.
