Thanks for all the replies on this, always glad I can learn something. still, i have that uncomfortable, creepy feeling that the US, and our own European military, is a bit on the wrong path, choosign always for very complicated tools and then experience that in conflicts something different and simpler is needed.
This may sound naive to some - but I think weāre in pretty good hands as far as what weāve chosen, all boondoggles (Crusader, Booker, et al aside) Or we could leave decisions to model bulding forums. ![]()
Letās look at your earlier statement again:
We could draw a somewhat similar comparison and ask why not buiild more Abrams tanks instead of improving the Bradley for going on five decades. We all know the the jokes about the Bradley from the Pentagon Wars, but the fact is, itās been a mainstay of our military almost since its inception.
Back to helicopters - I didnāt think it relevent to poi nt it out at the time, but Iāve planned and led helicopter missions in Afghanistan. Pretty heady stuff to have a Blackhawk and an Apache doing what you direct. As evident in these viseos.
I donāt think the pilot would have been as comfortable without those MGs.
Thatās what I thought, and thatās why i was asking you and Heavy these questions. Not to annoy you or question the ability of the US military to select the best tools for the job, but to increase my own understanding ![]()
