Afternoon all! A fair few years ago I picked up a Zvezda brand sd.kfz 251/3. I built parts of it and painted it a bit then got stuck on how to fit the tracks onto the vehicle after putting them together.
It was my first time with these tracks so, true to form, I stuffed them up by gluing them together (like a moron I did it with superglue!) and let them dry before fitting in place. Of course the curves of the track were inflexible and they didn’t fit. This kit then went not to the shelf but right to the back of the box of doom and has only now seen the light.
I blame you guys! Since joining the forum I’ve watched and learnt a lot. I’ve improved my skills (honestly I have!) and can see what I’ve done wrong along with what I have to do to bring it back to life.
This 251/3 kit needs stripping back and most parts removed, cleaned up then reassembled. I painted it with a brush and acrylic paints but it was an early effort so the paint is too thick and lumpy. I’m happy with the interior and engine so I’m now spot removing the paint from the rest of the vehicle. I’m also going to improve the radio set up and fix some other details that I’m now more confident to do.
The tracks though are stuffed. The glue has melted some of the connectors so even those I can get apart are broken.
I’ve now priced replacement tracks. AFV club workable tracks look the best at $22 AUD ($16 USD) or the AFV club rubber band looking tracks at $15, but I also thought about using the old Tamiya type rubber band tracks. It’s a cheap kit so I’m not considering metal tracks or the more expensive 3d printed ones. I’m also too much of a tight ar$e to bin it.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to which tracks would work best for the Zvezda 251/3? Does anyone have any tracks they no longer need and would sell?
Photo below is where I’m up to;
