A supposed submarine hunter

This, called the Short Seamew, was a prototype submarine hunter. I have never seen this before… (a bit of a Gannet, it is)

Like the evolution of the Dinosaur, to reach a sustainable model there were many false starts down the evolutionary tree.

Was the Il-20 the inspiration for the designers of the Seameew
or could two groups of designers have, independently, come up
with such similar monstrosities?

The IL-20 was designed in 1948 as a heavily armored ground-attack aircraft to replace the Sturmovik, it predated the Seamew by about 3 years…
