About the Cold War category

(1950-1989)

Talk about Cold War era Armor/AFV here.

Why is the cold war era cut off at 1974?
Ken.

Agree - this is a bit weird; surely this should be say, 1989 or at least 1990?

Yeah, it was sure still going on full throttle when I got there in ‘83. Personally I’d say that the fall of the Berlin Wall and Iron Curtain in 1989/90 would mark the end.

According to the US DoD, the Cold War ran from Sept. 2, 1945, to Dec. 26, 1991.

Cold War was definitely on past 1975. I could see 1989-1991 being used as end date.

Yeah, come on Moderators/whomsoever, get this tidied up please!

Hi all,

The period 1990/1991 can be defined in accordance with historical studies, as the end of the Warsaw Pact.

On March 31, 1991, almost 36 years after it was signed, the member states dissolved the military structures of the Warsaw Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. On July 1 of the same year, the treaty was finally terminated entirely, thus formally ending the Cold War. The alliance known as the Warsaw Pact was founded in Warsaw on May 14, 1955 by eight states of the socialist Eastern Bloc. In 1985, the member states decided to extend the contract for 20 years. In addition to the Soviet Union (USSR), the alliance included the socialist states of Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia (ČSSR), Hungary, the GDR and Albania. Albania withdrew from the Warsaw Treaty in 1968.

German reunification, the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the collapse of the Soviet Union can be identified as the cornerstones for the end of the Cold War!

Any other proposals?
