will you need the mudflaps off your SEP V.3?

Hey Nick-
So far, I think so. I’m robbing the V2 at this fork in the road. Will advise: it’s been a couple of months since I put this down for a while and the startup is “fun”.

Current RWS is an M151 for the Stryker, a standalone upgrade kit. It has a very high profile! Can have the M2, or a MK19. Nice kit.

Ordered the smaller kit. I don’t plan to have any crew, so a few rucks and a raid bag will do fine. Thanks!

Test of the Mr. Color primer

Brushed, quickly to “eyeball” the results. Definitely a smoother texture, too.

If you want i may have a set of tamiya side skirts you are welcome to them

Hi Nick-
Kind thanks. I’ve got the Minicraft hull and turret mated, and the Minicraft skirts look good. I’ll keep you in mind wrt mud flaps and skirts.

Progress on my Abrams AGDS project (related to the ADATS too!)
*NOTE: duplicate from the “what did you do today” thread!

Sunroom finally warmed up enough to allow using the AB. Primed the subassemblies with Mr. Surfacer 500 cut with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner at 20 mL of thinner with 10 mL of surfacer (2/1). Took 60 mL to shoot everything seen here. Shot at 20 psig. Dried to touch in 3-5 minutes!

  • AGDS turret is a 3DP from BananaTank in China. Hull was not to my liking, so it is a weight on the bench right now.
  • Hull is from the Academy Minicraft (kit 1345) M1A1. I previously enlarged the hull-side turret ring (or cylinder to some) to 64mm; this allowed dropping the turret straight in.
  • RWS on turret is from the Dragon (kit 3556) M1A2 SEPv3, along with a few odds and ends.
  • Kit bashed the gunner’s hatch
  • will use various modern crew kit and spares from the parts bin to festoon the racks on each side of the turret.
  • In the future, I think I will paint the wheels on the native sprue, then assemble, smooth, and paint the rubber.
  • Went looking for metal 35mm Bushmaster III barrels, to no avail.

Here is a subassembly layout prior to priming:

I hope to receive an interesting base this week for our show in a bit over three weeks! Plan is a coat of Bronze Green, now making its way to the field on US vehicles.

Looking good and a nice topic. Makes a change to see an M1 hull with something different up top. The primer shows it all off very well and the detailing.

Thanks @Johnnych01

AND- I’ve scratch built an erector frame for the missile bay, and will display the missile exiting the launch tube.

I need to find some EXHAUST SMOKE!

Very nice. The launcher looks great. It looks better in primer than the weird yellow-ish color.

Go to the craft store and buy some pillow stuffing. It can be shaped, stretched, and formed much better than cotton.
Outstanding build you’ve got going! See you at AMPS!

This is gonna be badass, you gonna bring it to amps nationals?

That is a VERY kind thing to say. I don’t know if National is in my plans this year. TBH, this is the second build for me in the last 6 months, and only the second build for me in the last 25 years.

I do plan to show it as a vignette in our local show in February.

Again, most kind.

Some test fitting and posing.

Almost ready to shoot the final color, which is the new Bronze Green being shot on the Abrams coming out of ANAD and JSMC (Lima Tank Plant) and going “overseas”.

I sort of dig the grey as a base coat. Seems a wintery thing. Add some black streaks, and a snowy base? LOLZ

I usually add the kit (bags, cans, etc.) after the subject is painted.

Feedback is a gift. TIA
