Progress has been slow of late, partially real life keeping me from the bench, and a London Modellers club competition with natural metal finish theme has sent me a down a rabbit hole.
What progress there has been.
Camo on the funnel, the photo of the ship in this type of scheme appears to show a pattern going onto the funnel cap, but the base colour on the cap appears to be dark, I am assuming that is heat proof paint.
The funnel and the lower section including the Admiral’s bridge fitted,
Hopefully moor soon.
Cheers, Si
Very nice work, Si!
The forward superstructure is really coming together!
Cheers
Jan
Thanks Jan,
The camo is coming along slowly but surely.
Cheers, Si
The latest progress.
The bridge tower complete.
Detail going on the after end of the superstructure deck.
Main section of the after superstrucure in place.
Ground tackle getting fitted.
This is where I am at, the fun starts now with the boats guns and other details.
I will admit the horizontal and fore and aft surfaces are mostly guesswork, please feel free to tell me I am wrong, but I would like that backed up with a photograph
More soon,
Cheers,
Si
Very nice, Si.
I just love the Hipper…
Camo - it just need to make sense, so lines and patterns that ‘match’ somehow. I seriously doubt that there was a master plan, improvised schemes as this one were just painted on. Nobody will ever be able to prove you right or wrong.

Okay. I have to ask; what is a “windy sick”?
Bill
Okay. I have to ask; what is a “windy sick”?Bill
Hi Bill,
Windy stick is the technically correct term for the companion to the hairy stick. My understanding is that some people also refer to the latter as the paintbrush, the former as the airbrush.
Now it makes sense! Thaks!
Bill
Thank you Jan,
This scheme from what I understand was “organic” The couple of photographs I have found of the port side the scheme is slightly different, and very roughly applied.
We can only do the best with the refences we have.
thankyou for looking,
Cheers, Si

Thanks for looking in Tim and Bill
Busy week at work, have got home tired, so have not been looking in.
But thanks

Hi Francesco.
Decal flags, there are several ways of doing that, waterslide I presume. I tend to use fine copper wire, rolled out straight, measure and cut to the length you need. Use the decal as per the directions. when it is loose on the backing slide the decal gently over the wire, carefully, and equally gently bend the decal over the wire. lining it up, fix the flag and wire in place with the glue of your choice. I will admit I tend to print my own flags on very light paper, much easier to handle. on a normal inkjet printer.
If you are using a wood veneer deck, I spray a light coat of matt varnish, I use Tamiya matt clear straight from the rattle can. I am not a fan of rub downs, If the deck is sealed you can use waterslide, the decal will sit over the anchor ways, so you will need a decal softer, mirco sol or similar.
Hope that helps.
Anyone else would like to chip in, feel free.
Cheers, Si
thanks red duster for the precious indications
At last time to update, the real world has been kept me away from decent sessions at the bench. However bits and peices here and progress has been made.
The bow capstans in place, needs the Eduard etched wheels and sone chain stoppers.
The cranes are being a real pain, the WEM etch is a very poor fit, their cables don’t fit with the eduard parts which have been used to improve the booms, ,
The main turrets and the TTs under construction.
The twin 105mm built and painted,
The superstructure railings under way and the Black cat twin 37mm test fitted.
I hope the next up update won’t take so long.
Cheers, Si
Admiral Hipper is looking better each time I see him, Si. Those bright wood decks really pop!
Thanks for looking in Tim,
He is coming along, slowly but surely.
Cheers, Si
Beautiful progress, Si!
Your Hipper looks great, very special for sure in that camo. And always again - what a difference it makes when they get their teeth, even if only test fitted!
Cheers
Jan
Thanks Jan,
Hope to get some paint on them tomorrow. musing over the tops, might do the yellow, but with just a bit peeking out from under tarps, one the photos I found certainly shows tarps on the main turret roofs.
Cheers, Si.
Si, assembly is coming along nicely. I can understand about life getting in the way, as my Warspite project has been on hold for the same reasons. Mark
Thanks for looking in Mark, hope you get time for the Grand old lady soon.
Cheers, Si
