Advance to Arnhem 1/16 scale

That is for sure…

I’ve managed to keep a bunch of those plastic airtight cannisters rolls of film used to come in – acrylic mixes last for months in those, would your oil mixes last as long in something similar? Hah maybe Tupperware at this scale :tumbler_glass:

Hi Ski,

The camouflage pattern is top-notch, especially like the subtle colour shift you’ve achieved as one colour runs over another, brilliant attention to detail, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Cheers,,

Yes great job on the uniforms. I’m looking to finish a Diorama I started with the paras in suez and will be painting that camo for the first time

Tim, the only real way to keep a reasonable amount of oils for any length of time is to place the palette in the freezer after each session. The palette fits into a quick seal container. I don’t mix enough for a canister, but yes, they are excellent for some paints. Unfortunately I’m a slow painter and even while using one particular tone my thinner and oil mix dries fast. Some think thinner is a no-no, but I’ve been using it ever since I started using oils back in the early 90’s.

I’ve messed around with additives, even leaching the oils from the pigments on cardboard, but just good 'ol paint thinner works best for me. Ah,…I’m just a stubborn, crusty 'ol fart, I recon, HA!

Yes G-man, this is the time consuming part, but it’s worth the effort. The darker green sections are the most difficult to keep consistent because their highlights are so close to the shadow tone of the lighter green section. An optical illusion has to be created by leaving a “gap”, in some cases, to keep them from blurring into each other, if ya know what I mean.

If it’s 1/35th you may have an easier go at it. This scale and larger seem to be unforgiving and there really isn’t a short cut to painting each section. I have a Falkland Islands campaign figure, Fort Royal Review, Brit Para with tight camo pattern, yikes! I recon the digi-camo is a nightmare in this scale too, haven’t tried that yet.

What ever you do Metalhead, have fun at it!

Thanks Gents, Ski.

I have a feeling your stubborn sticktoittiveness of the ethnic variety , which I share , as either a boon or a bane will eventually make these lads as exceptional as your conning tower figure work .
I love it man , very cool !!

From one Polish Brother to another, Tanks Man. Anal retentiveness has it’s advantages, lol. Not that I’m a stickler for detail, oh no. Ask my wife when I bark at her for how she parks the truck, right?

Thanks Bro, Bren gunner almost done, ready for the rest.

Aha the ol’ freezer ploy eh? I don’t know why anyone would object to using thinners, like you that’s my standard m.o. provided enough solid pigment was mixed & kept in reserve in the first place of course. Btw my wife says Wesołych Świąt :tumbler_glass:

Yes the digital camo scares me. I’m gonna try it soon with a fig for my M1 Panther vehicle in Iraq. The Denison camouflage seems a little easier.

Hey Tim, Tu Tambien!

MH, post them pics when ya got em, be interested to see how it goes. there are quite a few guys who have done the digi-camo, so pics are there for reference, if need be.

Yes I will, I have them primed; just waiting to finish the weathering on the tank. Should start this week.

Upper Torso Done for Now

After finishing the camo pattern on the upper torso I went ahead and took care of the web gear and finished the smock collar. Well, why stop there, right? So, I went ahead and took care of the helmet too, why not. I added a string for the canteen cap using thin copper wire and also took care of any issues that were visible. I’ll set this figure aside for now and continue on with the next figure in the same fashion. Once all the figures reach this point I’ll go back and take care of the hands, trousers, and boots.

Any questions or comments feel free to holler and thanks for watchin. Cheers, Ski.

Hi Ski,

Lovely paint job, especially like the little touches, such as the water bottle plug retaining line, very nice detail, :slightly_smiling_face:.
