I wasn’t sure, but that’s pretty much what I figured they were for. I wondered when I built an LVTP-5, and seeing that they have to be moved on the LVTH-6 I thought it would be something like this, caused by the extra weight and shifted centre of gravity from the turret.
This drawing is related to a “coupled LVTP5” project. Got no clue about the material they planned to use…

H.P.
Painting rubber tires here… it will take me a few weeks to get it all done, a lot of small wheels… most of it won’t be seen…but still I’m willing to take the challenge !
Great start.
I scratch built one many years ago shortly after the LVTP5- A1 was released by AFV Club.
Cheers,
Ralph
Do any of you old NTC people remember seeing a perimeter fence at the Yermo Marine Corps Depot made out of old LVT 6’s? I distinctly remember seeing an endless row of them, seemingly creating a perimeter of some sort at the base, somewhere near the rail head, back in the early 90’s. I may be crazy, but I remember this and thinking, wow, that’s a lot of old Amtraks
Yup, remember it vividly. Did you ever go onto Yermo and explore? There were all sorts of vehicles and equipment there. There was a whole yard full of M151s stacked 3 or 4 high. Another yard full of LVTP7A1s, etc., etc. Some crazy stuff like huge ship propellers too. It is a neat area.
We did! 3 of us were train guards from Ft. Hood, about three days on the train, in a freaking caboose, got into Yermo at zero dark thirty, spent a good part of the night roaming around, climbing into the rebuilt Amtraks, had a blast, then three days back and I began clearing and ETS’d
And it was right after desert storm, and every time we stopped at a train yard the guys there brought us all sorts of food and sodas and extra water, good times
That turret almost looks like it would be at home on say, an M24, or even an M41. Be a hell of a What-If perhaps?
I agree on an M41 it would look great.
Looks to me like the same tube as used on the M52. (And there’s a model we could do with in styrene).
Well… on this one you have to do Step 5 ( the tracks ) before Step 4.
The side hull covers most of the suspension and wheels, you won’t be able to do the tracks with the hull “box” built …
Sure you can — just leave off the top run, you’ll never see it again if you do go to the trouble of fitting it. You need to install the roadwheels and idlers before fitting the upper hull, but the drive sprockets can be installed after painting:
Thanks Jakko !
I’m glad it can be done.
Still… I will be working on the tracks first
