AFV M54A2 Gun Truck Eve of Destruction

Thanks for letting me join the Group,
I am getting back into the hobby again and have a quick question on painting the Drivers area / Cab on the AFV Gun Truck, I know that the Gun truck outside were sometimes painted Black, Did they paint the inside the drivers area / cab black also or leave it OD green?
Thanks

Guntrucks were seen with it both ways. Inside portions of the armored plate would still be black though.

Eve at the US Army Transport museum doesn’t show the cab area well enough to make a determination.

I personally like to leave the cab interior green for some variety and I don’t think soldiers would take the time to tape off inside pieces to repaint the cab interior black.

First off, welcome to the forum!

Not always. There was no standard in construction , armament, or painting. These trucks weren’t even on the TO &E.

I would not use a museum to determine colors, or where they were applied. As you spend time on this forum you’ll find museums can be notoriously inaccurate in their depictions of vehicles.
Same goes for the re-enactor vehicles. Your best reference is obviously photos taken at the time.

Never underestimate what a soldier will take the time to do or not. While I’m sure green interiors were seen, we know some soldiers took the time to paint the cab interiors black.

I had another but I seem to have misplaced it for the moment.

Ah. Found it.

That’s why most of them were scrapped and left behind, with the exception of “Eve”; she was brought back and put on display at Ft. Eustis.

I remember the US Army pulled her from display and did some evaluating on her to understand how she was put together.

That knowledge was used into building the “modern” gun trucks used in Iraq.

“Ace of Spades”; an M923A1 Gun Truck that saw service in Iraq; a direct descendant of “Eve Of Destruction”. On display at Ft. Eustis.
