Air ID panels, US armour WW2

Given that coloured air-ID panels tended to be used on US vehicles during periods of Allied air supremacy, would it have been appropriate in the Ardennes in the winter of 1944-45?

Interesting how those rear fenders are in two pieces I guess, and missing the other half if I’m looking at this picture right.

That’s because this tank has HVSS, but the sand shields were the same as for VVSS, just with extension plates to cope with the extra width of the HVSS. What you’re looking at here is only the extensions still in place. The slots in them are to allow some adjustment in width to get everything to line up correctly.
