Well, 2021 is now in the rearview mirror and a new year of model shows have already started populating the internet and model magazine calendars, and the AMPS International Convention in April 7-9, 2022, Marriott at Center City, Newport News, Virginia is no exception. This year’s theme is: Move It. If it hauls, moves, or transports supplies, vehicles, equipment, or personnel, it is eligible for the AMPS 2022 Theme Award. In addition, lest we forget the cancelled AMPS 2020 show theme, “Last Battles,” these theme builds will be recognized for AMPS Show Theme awards. After a 2 year pause due to pandemic concerns and safety protocols, we are finally having a show and the show team members are going full speed ahead to make this one for the books. Since the COVID-19 pandemic stopped model shows and contests pretty much in their tracks back in March 2020, modelers have not stopped building and posting their projects on the various armor modeling sites. It has been encouraging to read about model shows, regardless of the size and location, slowly taking place since early summer and tables filled with models for show and competition are proof modelers are itching to get back to regularly attending shows.
AMPS 2022 is no exception. Vendor coordinators, seminar coordinators, show sponsors and many other members with a variety of duties are working away behind the scenes to put together a fantastic show this year.
With less than 100 days before the big show, please note the following and don’t let time get away from you while finishing up those builds for the show:
Hotel Reservations: There are hotel rooms still available at the original AMPS 2020 show prices and are filling up, so when they are gone, they’re gone. Visit the AMPS homepage at amps-armor.org and check out how easy it is to register for a room on-line. Don’t forget: when you call, tell them you are with the AMPS International group block so you get the discounted AMPS rate. With about 3 months to show time, don’t delay in getting your reservations secured.
Pre-registration: AMPS 2022 show pre-registration opens on February 1st, 2022. Pre-registration is a great way to get all the paperwork done beforehand. Of note for this this year’s show, there will be a 5 model entry limit per entrant for this show.
Call for Judges: AMPS is always looking for more judges to help spread the work around and allow more modelers to enjoy the show. Sharing in the judging duties helps others who might be otherwise working several judging shifts to enjoy the show. AMPS will be running Judging classes for those who would like to get involved in serving as well as for those who would like a ‘refresher’ course. Completing 2 judging shifts gets you a very cool AMPS 2022 crew tee shirt, printed with this year’s show theme.
