AMX-13 in the IDF

I decided to build a series of three AMX-13 tanks used by the Israeli army.

The first will be one of five tanks delivered for testing in Israel. These were tanks with a chassis designated as Type 2A. I used the Takom 2037 AMX-13/90 kit for this model because it is the only one with the sloped lateral bins on both side fenders. The tanks were in the original French olive color.

The second tank will be a standard AMX-13 with a Type 2B chassis. I chose the Takom 2036 AMX-13/75 kit for this model.

The last model will be the AMX-13 with modifications designed during the trials of the first tanks, that is, with a special raised turret platform, full side set of sand guard on fenders and other modifications for service in the desert. I used the Takom 2038 AMX-13/75 w/SS-11 ATMG for this model because I got it cheap. In the end, it was not a good choice, the wheel suspension system had to be modified, and in addition, the kit includes a tension wheel of a newer type. Fortunately, my friend replaced it with the correct one with six relief holes.

The Israeli AMX-13 used the older screwed type of the main wheels and simple headlight cages, so I designed them and they will print them on a 3D printer. Another print is a new SA50 cannon muzzle brake and barrel, two different boxes on the tank turret and auxiliary sights in front of the turret periscopes. I also printed on the last tank with new fenders with dust aprons, rear exhaust covers, muffler with extension and platform for heightening the turret. The most modifications are on the first tank with Type 2A chassis. For it I created a new exhaust cover, new dual taillights, new front parts of the storage boxes on the fenders, reflectors on the front fender and protective cage for the siren and rearview mirror on the left fender. All parts can be obtained at Download 15 3D models from AMX-13 listed by rcihelna • 3D printer files collection • Designs in STL, OBJ, 3MF…・Cults.

Nice work with the 3D printing. You should know that the early AMX 13s had longer legs for the gun travel lock, simplified auxiliary sights and no head protection for the driver (triangular piece of metal linked to the hatch).
Take note that Takom goofed the torsion bars attachment point on one side.
You can see the modifications on the thread I posted some years ago here

Enjoy your builds
