I like to say, “Never use a model as a reference.” But as the kit piece is based on my own measurements, I’d say you’re safe. Unless it’s my “usual BS.”
I think the main question is if the Boeing “Avenger” optionally-manned pedestal turret will survive and pass on to the JLTV or other vehicles in the future.
Now that the Hellfire ATGM has been proven to be dangerous when ground-mounted due to vehicle vibrations, that kind of dims the prospects, but the “Avenger” pedestal can mount the AIM-9 Sidewinder (in addition to a 4-shot Stinger missile pod or a .50cal lightweight heavy machine gun) and Sidewinder has a longer range (about 20+ miles when air launched) than the Stinger missile at 3+ miles (5 km). AIM-9X Sidewinder can also attack ground targets.
These are all concept demonstrators, not even prototypes. There is no current Program Requirement as of Fall 2024 to mount the Boeing “Avenger” pedestal turret onto other vehicles outside of the HMMWV, and the photos show the “Avenger” turret using TV and thermal cameras and no radars for search, detection, tracking, and targeting.
Referring to my photos of the rear compartment above, it’s obvious we need other new HMMWV kits. I know about the one ICM recently produced. Not quite what I wanted. I’ve been working on bringing us this one:
As you can see, the reference photos are quite thorough as usual. I want this version as it’s representative of the ones we used at Camp Red Devil as OC/T’s. They were all set up pretty much the same way. I tried using an Italeri one last year but was disappointed with it.
The good news is I’ve got some pretty good Avenger photos as well. Just need someone to bite.
