Back to the HMMWV series with an index covering the AN-TWQ-1 Avenger Air Defense Vehicle. Here’s the link to the new page: WarWheels.Net - AN/TWQ-1 HMMWV Avenger Air Defense Vehicle Index .
The HMMWV “Avenger” system has about 400 units left, according to the internet. It is being replaced my the M-SHORAD in the US Army consisting of an 8x8 Strykers with 30mm, 7.62mm COAX, and two 4-shot Stinger pods, and the MADIS in the USMC consisting of 4x4 JLTVs with 30mm, 7.62mm COAX, and a 4-shot Stinger pod, or the LADIS consisting of 4x4 MRZRs with handheld Stingers.
The old Avenger HMMWV.
The new US Army “Sergeant Stout” M-SHORAD Stryker vehicle.
USMC Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS).
I thought the M- SHORAD was going to be Armed with the Ground to Air version of the Hellfire… That would have been Interesting…
Not any longer. It was found that the Hellfire was not strong enough to withstand the vibrations of the vehicle and were being damaged. It will now carry two Stinger pods.
I was going to make a special trip to Ft. Sill for the M-SHORAD Stryker soon but it’s been put off to recover from rotator cuff surgery. I couldn’t veery well ask my wife to climb up and get measurements.
That makes sense; I was Wondering how They could get an Anti-Armor Missile to perform Ground to Air.
Well that sucks Rob. Hope you heal quickly. As for asking your wife to do your measurements: I mean you COULD ask her… But, I believe that may not be a very good idea.
It had to be rescheduled for Friday. Should have had it two weeks ago, and would have healed in time for trip. We were going to stop by there on the way to another dude ranch, but driving cattle two weeks after surgery was a little iffy. My wife doesn’t mind giving a hand in things - I just feel more comfortable getting measurements myself. Heck, my daughter has been climbing on Bradleys since she was 12.
Oh, I know. I was just funnin’. Good luck with the surgery.
USMC MADIS JLTV remote weapon turret has two Stinger SHORAD missiles (Moog turret can accommodate four Stingers).
There is the USMC JLTV MADIS Mark 1 with the 30mm autocannon, 7.62mm COAX, and Stinger missiles, and the Mark 2 with the 7.62mm Gatling gun that is mainly used for counter-drone defense. Both can have short-range radars and TV and FLIR cameras. The guns are in remote weapons stations that allow the Marines to fire from inside the vehicle. (The same applies with the US Army’s M-SHORAD in which no one sits in that turret either).

I am sure ICM will produce one but could one take the Italeri Avenger and mount it on a M1097A2?
I know the plastic will fit but would avenger cab etc be correct?
Yes, it will be perfect and much more detailed than the Italeri base kit.
Detail aside, the reinforcing ribs on the rear sponsons are incorrect. Not that most people would notice, especially when they’re covered up.
Can you break it down shotgun style for those that don’t habla?
With crayons
We need modern bino figures.
On a more serious note, anyone know the size or a good wag on the foot looker they added to the back of the Humvee?
