Andy’s M113

It arrived. Had to go through the instructions like I always do with a new kit. Just from looking through the box, I’m impressed.

The box is huge! I will have to scrounge for enough paper to wrap this thing. That’s where it’s going now, all packaged back up to be wrapped and then opened on Christmas!

You cheated. You already fondled the parts.

Yeah, I used to get in trouble for that when I was a kid.

I did no such thing…

They are still sealed in the bags and I only lifted them to get to the instructions.

I have the Kit Due for Tuesday Dec.10th. i was just wondering if anyone out there is remotely interested in My build of it?
I also have the 16th. M4A3E8 Late and the Achilles that are due at the same time.
I plan on doing a Cross kit of both kits and hope to Have a M4A3 76W with VVVS Suspension and A Israeli Achilles with HVVS Suspension. That will be coming eventually.
I was just wondering if I should post my build of the M113?
Regards
Donald

yeah, that’s why I got 2, one for Mrs. Claus to wrap & put under the tree (along w/all the Jasons Studios goodies, that USPS will deliver tomorrow) and the other for me to “fondle” (?) the parts and start to review the instructions. Happy Holidays to all…

Here are some shots of my build. There are a number of design choices in this kit that left me scratching my head, but overall, it’s been a fun build.

You should explain what they were, so other people know what to expect.

Here are a few of the issues I’ve had with this kit.

  1. Road wheels, each wheel is two parts, the outer rubber and the wheel itself. The way the parts are broken down you will need to a seam around each wheel. If they had made the outer part the entire width the seam issue could be avoided.
  2. Torsion bars and suspension arms are fragile. They can be installed fixed or free, but the I think the locating pins for the fixed arms are too small. The directions call for the torsion bars to be installed before the arms and in my experience, this leads to misalignment. It’s better to glue the torsion bars into the arms and then install as a unit.
  3. The trackpads seem to be incorrect; they are too tall, and the sides angled too steeply. There are however some aftermarket tracks that are more accurate.
  4. The commander’s cupola is missing the bump stop and bracket on the rear behind the hatch, so you’ll need to scratch build that.
These are just minor irritations as I said the kit is still a fun build and is really impressive when built up.

Overall its rather a gorgeous kit of course theres some issues due probably to moulding limitations and cost.
Theres a few things omitted I thought would b included and a few grey areas to deal with but thats what brings out the modeller in me at least. The assembly instructions dont really float my boat either but thats just me.
I’m thoroughly enjoying mine so far and given myself far more work than I needed to. LOL

Nice! Is this type of camouflage called MERDC, Winter?
At this scale, was this done freehand AB?

Yes, MERDAC winter verdant. It’s free hand and the kit is 1/16 Scale, Andy’s Hobby Headquarters M113A1. With a kit this size I was almost tempted to use a commercial spray gun and even found a place online that sell the colors in large spray cans and gallons. In the end I used AK Real Colors and it actually didn’t take as much paint as I originally thought.
