Anyone parting out a 1/48 F-104 (preferably Kinetic)

I know a lot of folks will buy a second kit to replace stuff they ruined the first time - often these are canopies, I see kits for sale missing the clear stuff.

Well, I need a wing (don’t ask), so if you need a canopy or anything other than a wing, maybe we can split a kit?

Have you reached out to Raymond Chung?

No sir, never heard of him. Just searched the site and only found this thread.

So I went the GIMF route and viola!

Thank you for that, I’m just sharing the updated info at this point…

I got no reply on the info@kineticmodel.com, I waited two weeks. I read elsewhere to use raymond @luckymodel.com, so I tried sending email there today.

Will let you know what if anything happens.

I’ll send you an even better one.

I was able to get connected to Raymond thanks to Bravo here, unfortunately the kit is not in current production, so no spares for now.

I have a kit that is missing one single clear part, would love to give away the spares to fellow hobbyists. Probably another few thousand people would say the same. There’s got to be a good system for that. I do not see “started” or “broken bag” kits on ebay very often.

Any suggestions?

Check on Ebay for 1/48 F-104 parts. Couple sellers sell "spare " sprues.

Just looked.2 Hasegawa sets for $11 ea. Beggars cant be choosers.

A shame to lose a kit because of one part. I have a vacu-form machine. (two actually) Would it be possible to make a form from basswood or even Mili-put? Justy keep inserting it into the fuselage until it’s just under the size you need. Heat form a new canopy over it. It’s worth a try.

This was the trick! I tried adding “open box”, “used”, “incomplete” and could not find anything but full versions. There might have been a hit within the results, but I scrolled through a bunch of them, tried arranging by price and when the lowest is $45 or so…those are kits. Did not think to use “parts” duh!

I think it is at least somewhat common that folks buy an entire kit for a single part. I’ve done it once, was not a fan of doing it a second time but I have the kit in my shopping cart with a few vendors. The trick is finding a place to trade/swap/buy. I think “parts” was the key I was missing.

I appreciate the offer for vacuform, I did consider trying a mirror mold of some sort from the other wing which i have. I just do not see having a perfect casting, and with a metal/aluminum finish it is beyond my skill to conceal.

Guy is rliable.Bought a bunch of stuff ffom him. Hasegawa 1/48th Scale F-104G Starfighter - Parts Lot Gd from Kit No. 07220 | eBay

Second listing. Need this and previous listing for full wing. Forgot there is an upper and lower. Hasegawa 1/48th Scale F-104G Starfighter - Parts Lot F from Kit No. 07220 | eBay

Much appreciated Sluff!

I reached out to him about one of those listings. One sprue he has should work, but I need a second to finish, the upper/lower wings are in 2 parts for most kits, but in this case they span different sprues.

I put a 22.50 offer on the two partial Hasegawa kits. They look mostly complete, definitely the wings, so there’s a chance I could build a second version from the 3 kits.
